Job Description
US Acute Care Solutions (USACS) is a leading national healthcare organization dedicated to providing high-quality hospitalist and observation medicine services across the United States. Founded with a commitment to innovative patient care, USACS partners with hospitals to optimize clinical operations, enhance patient outcomes, and support healthcare providers. With a strong presence in various healthcare settings, USACS offers comprehensive services including emergency medicine, hospitalist medicine, and observation medicine, backed by advanced clinical governance and physician support systems. The organization emphasizes leadership development, collaborative care models, and evidence-based practices, empowering physicians to deliver exceptional care while fostering professional growth. Its network spans a variety of hospitals, including notable facilities within the Lifebridge Health System.
One of the partner hospitals is Northwest Hospital, a 240-bed not-for-profit hospital located in Randallstown, Maryland. As part of the Lifebridge Health System, which also includes Sinai Hospital and Grace Medical Center in Baltimore, Northwest Hospital offers a wide range of patient services. The hospital is well-equipped with 24 observation beds, manages approximately 30 daily observation encounters, and uses the Cerner electronic medical records system. The median patient length of stay in the observation unit is less than 22 hours, highlighting the hospital's efficient patient throughput and care coordination. Northwest Hospital benefits from national observation program support and oversight, ensuring high standards of clinical quality and patient satisfaction.
The role of Hospitalist Observation Medicine Medical Director with USACS at Northwest Hospital is a pivotal leadership position. The individual in this role is responsible for overseeing the management and operations of the hospital's observation medicine services. This includes collaborating closely with hospital and nursing leadership to optimize patient care, managing the onsite physician staff, and supporting peer review and quality assurance activities. The director acts as a liaison between the hospital and USACS, influencing operational decisions and facilitating the development of clinical leaders within the organization.
Key responsibilities encompass day-to-day management of the observation unit, ensuring quality patient experiences by managing clinical protocols and addressing any complaints effectively. Clinical practice remains a component of the role, allowing the director to maintain patient care skills while driving operational excellence. Administrative duties include leading meetings to represent the observation unit, supervising physician staff, maintaining improvement plans to meet benchmarks, and investigating quality referrals from hospital committees. The Medical Director reports directly to the National Director of Observation Services, contributing to broader organizational goals and clinical governance.
This role requires a candidate who is board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with a minimum of three years of experience caring for hospital-based patients. While prior administrative experience is desirable, the position provides an opportunity to engage in both clinical leadership and direct patient care. Compensation is competitive, with an employed W-2 range estimated between $127.50 and $160 per hour, plus an additional leadership stipend, reflecting the strategic importance of this role within USACS and Northwest Hospital.
Physicians joining USACS can take advantage of an excellent benefits package that promotes financial security, professional development, and work-life balance. Benefits include equity ownership after three years, a company-funded 401(k) plan, tax-free CME funds, paid parental and military leave, low-interest student loan refinancing, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as unmatched malpractice protection including tail coverage and litigation support. The company’s malpractice claims are notably less than half the national average, underscoring the organization's commitment to physician support.
Moreover, USACS offers intangible benefits like location flexibility, a national clinical governance board of elected physicians, 24/7 live physician support, and access to clinical management tools. Physicians can also engage in leadership and professional development programs such as the Scholars Leadership Training and the Efficiency Academy, providing pathways for career advancement and enhanced clinical practice.
The setting for this role is Randallstown, Maryland, a suburban community just six miles northwest of Baltimore. This location provides the best of both urban and suburban living, with easy access to the city’s vibrant Inner Harbor and the cultural attractions of Washington, D.C., just an hour away. Randallstown features excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, and convenient accessibility via the I-695 beltway, making it an attractive place for physicians and their families to live and work. This combination of professional opportunity and quality of life establishes the Hospitalist Observation Medicine Medical Director position at USACS and Northwest Hospital as a highly desirable career choice for physician leaders committed to patient-centered care and clinical excellence.
