Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is a well-established retail company that has been the trusted destination for pet owners seeking high-quality pet products and services for over 60 years. With more than 1,500 stores across the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico, as well as 250+ Vetco Total Care veterinary hospitals, Petco is dedicated to nurturing the pet-human bond through a comprehensive range of offerings. The company is deeply committed to supporting local animal welfare groups and has played a pivotal role in facilitating the adoption of approximately 7 million animals nationwide. As a company proud to be "where the pets go," Petco emphasizes its core values: putting pets first by protecting and empowering their wellbeing, fostering fun through a passion for pets, and committing to a united team environment where authenticity is celebrated. Petco's organizational culture focuses on improving lives by doing right by pets and their owners, fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace where employees can thrive and bring their whole selves to work. The veterinary team at Vetco Total Care hospitals enjoys working with advanced medical equipment and interdisciplinary support, ensuring high-quality patient care and continuous professional development.

The role of Veterinarian at Petco's Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospital offers an immersive and rewarding opportunity for those passionate about animal health and welfare. This is a part-time, non-remote position located in Mira Loma, California, at 6301 Pat's Ranch Rd. Veterinarians working in this role are entrusted with providing exceptional patient care, leading medical teams, and actively contributing to the hospital's mission of delivering next-generation veterinary care. Responsibilities include conducting thorough physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and developing individualized preventive care plans guided by patient lifestyle and environment. The Veterinarian will perform routine and complex surgical and dental procedures such as spays, neuters, mass removals, and oral surgeries, maintaining detailed and precise medical records for each patient. This position demands excellent clinical judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and referral specialists.

Teamwork and professional conduct are essential to this role, as the Veterinarian serves as a de facto leader within the hospital, inspiring a collaborative environment that prioritizes patient needs and customer satisfaction. The Veterinarian will work closely with the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director, who provide guidance based on medical record reviews to promote best practices and elevated patient care standards. Candidates should be prepared to handle emotionally charged situations with compassion and professionalism, maintain a high standard of care, and be open to continuous learning and adaptation. This role involves physical activity such as bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 30 pounds, as well as prolonged periods of standing, reflecting the hands-on nature of veterinary medicine.

Petco offers competitive hourly pay ranging from $50.75 to $81.25 and an extensive benefits package that supports the wellbeing and financial security of its employees. Petco is an Equal Opportunity Employer, valuing diversity and inclusivity in the workplace without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status. This position represents a unique chance for veterinarians to join a large, nationally recognized organization committed to innovation in animal care, professional growth, and making a meaningful impact in pet families' lives.
