The role of a Hospital Security Officer at Allied Universal is a critical and respected position dedicated to safeguarding healthcare facilities such as Westmoreland Hospital, Latrobe Hospital, Butler Hospital, and Norwin Square. The Hospital Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of staff, patients, visitors, and hospital property. This position is available in both full-time and part-time schedules, offering flexible working hours that include weekends and all shifts, up to 40 hours weekly. Officers can expect competitive compensation starting at $16.00 per hour, with variations depending on location. Hospital Security Officers perform a variety of duties which include monitoring for suspicious behavior, preventing security breaches, and maintaining a secure healthcare environment. Officers work collaboratively with nursing and hospital staff and may assist with patient restraints following proper training. This role also involves escorting hospital staff and occasionally deceased patients to the morgue, requiring discretion and professionalism. The job demands frequent walking or standing for extended periods, with some moderate use of technology, and requires officers to be at least 21 years of age for certain responsibilities.

Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles
  • 21+ years of age for armed roles
  • possess a high school diploma or equivalent, or 5 years of verifiable experience
  • prior work experience involving dealing with customers, troubleshooting, and managing stressful situations
  • pass background investigation according to applicable laws
  • pass drug screening as permitted by law
  • licensing requirements based on state and local regulations
  • successful completion of training and Management of Aggressive Behavior certification
  • multiple vaccinations required prior to working on-site including two-stage Tuberculosis screening, MMR, Varicella, and Tetanus screening
  • child abuse clearance submitted at orientation
  • frequent walking and standing required (indoor/outdoor)
  • moderate technological usage

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent, or 5 years of verifiable experience
  • prior experience dealing with customers, troubleshooting, and managing stressful situations
  • ability to complete training requirement and obtain Management of Aggressive Behavior certification
  • valid driver’s license for driving positions
  • meet age requirements as per role (18+ for unarmed, 21+ for armed)

Job Duties

  • Observe and remain vigilant for signs of crime, disorder, hazard, and unusual activity
  • patrol on foot, bicycle, or via a vehicle to check for unsafe conditions, blocked entryways, security violations, mechanical problems, and unauthorized individuals
  • orally and physically de-escalate individuals, as needed
  • inspect all security devices and fire control equipment
  • screen members, visitors, and client employees to expedite their admittance to the facility
  • respond to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, or inclement weather with calm urgency
  • escort patients, provide patient watches, safety escorts, assist and/or transport deceased to morgue
