Job Description

The hospital is a comprehensive healthcare facility dedicated to providing top-quality medical services and patient care. Known for its commitment to excellence and safety, the hospital maintains a clean, sanitary, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Striving to meet the highest standards, the organization ensures adherence to health regulations and fosters an atmosphere conducive to healing and comfort. The hospital employs specialists and support staff who are essential to daily operations, with each team member playing a vital role in maintaining a supportive environment for everyone.

The role of a Hospital Housekeeper is critical to the hospital's functionality and cleanliness. This position is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and servicing assigned areas within or associated with the hospital. Under the direct leadership of a supervisor, the housekeeper performs various cleaning and maintenance duties to uphold the hospital's hygiene standards. Tasks include intensive floor care such as dusting, damp mopping, stripping, refinishing, and spray buffing. Additionally, the housekeeper manages carpet and furniture care by vacuuming, spot removal, and shampooing. Other responsibilities involve collecting and disposing of trash, soiled linens, and recyclable materials, as well as replacing receptacle liners and recycling totes to maintain cleanliness.

The role also encompasses cleaning and sanitizing surfaces vertically and horizontally, including vents, light fixtures, window ledges, doors, and restrooms. In the restrooms, the housekeeper cleans fixtures and replenishes supplies regularly. The housekeeper must also clean and maintain stairwells, elevators, water fountains, walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, and glassware. Duties extend to changing curtains, draperies, blinds, and shades as assigned. This position involves the operation of electric and battery-powered cleaning equipment and the rearrangement of furniture and equipment as necessary.

Moreover, the housekeeper picks up needed supplies, packs regulated medical waste, and responds to emergencies such as floods. Protective clothing must be worn as required by hospital protocols for safety. Cleaning and remaking beds, stretchers, and exam tables with soiled linens and protective coverings are also essential job functions. This role demands physical stamina due to lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds, frequent bending, stooping, reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling non-motorized equipment over 50 pounds.

The Hospital Housekeeper position requires attention to detail, physical ability, and a proactive approach to maintaining hygiene in a busy hospital setting that may involve potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids. This role is a key contributor to the hospital’s overall effort in providing a safe and healthy environment to patients, visitors, and staff. Employment with the hospital promises stable work hours and the opportunity to be part of a team focused on health and cleanliness excellence.
