Job Description

UW Medical Center-Montlake is a prominent acute care academic medical center located in Seattle, Washington. The Day Hospital Custodian position at UW Medical Center-Montlake is a critical role within the Environmental Services department. This full-time role, offering 40 hours per week with day shift hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and rotating weekends, focuses on maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of inpatient, non-patient, and administrative areas across the facility. Responsibilities for the Day Hospital Custodian include cleaning and disinfecting all furniture, fixtures, and equipment in compliance with established procedures aimed at reducing infection risks. This role involves handling soiled linen properly, disinfecting and remaking beds in patient rooms, and performing floor care such as dusting, wet mopping, stripping, buffing, and applying finish using high-speed buffers and automated floor scrubbers. The custodian is also tasked with specialized cleaning in surgical and invasive procedure rooms and managing bloodborne pathogen and chemical spill cleanup according to strict protocols to ensure safety and compliance.

Additional duties include vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets with automated shampooers and extractors, outdoor cleaning activities like snow and debris removal, and ensuring compliance with medical center safety policies and emergency procedures. This role is vital in supporting a safe, clean, and welcoming healthcare environment which directly impacts patient and staff well-being. Compensation for the position ranges from $21.84 to $29.40 hourly, reflecting competitive pay within the regional healthcare sector. This is a regular, full-time position under the WFSE Campuswide union bargaining unit.

Job Qualifications

  • physical ability to perform manual cleaning tasks and lift moderate weights
  • good communication skills
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • performs cleaning and related activities in areas outside the facility using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, and sweeps sidewalks or stairs
  • complies with safety policies and medical center emergency and disaster procedures
