The Hospital Aide position at MacDill AFB is essential in supporting the patient care operations by performing a variety of environmental services duties. The incumbent is mainly responsible for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and infection control across patient rooms, clinical areas, and various facility support spaces. This role ensures full compliance with stringent regulatory and accreditation standards, including those set by The Joint Commission (TJC), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE). Hospital Aides play a critical part in upholding the facility’s infection control protocols and environmental healthcare procedures to minimize health risks and support overall hospital objectives.
The position involves the use of a diverse range of cleaning tools and chemicals, including EPA-registered disinfectants and specialized equipment such as HEPA-filtered vacuums and rotary machines. Responsibilities extend from routine cleaning and sanitizing of wards, exam rooms, and nursing stations to more focused tasks such as biohazard cleanup and regulated medical waste handling. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety and infection control standards, and the ability to respond promptly to emergencies, including spill containment and equipment maintenance. Work in this role takes place in a dynamic 24/7 operational environment, requiring flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Requirements
- Must wear uniform and comply with departmental work rules, DoD access control requirements, and MacDill AFB security badging standards
- Knowledge of department policies, infection control standards, and OSHA chemical safety
- Willingness and ability to assist in emergencies including patient care support and biohazard cleanup
- Must complete federal background investigation and pre-employment drug screening
- Must be available for all shifts in a 24/7 operational environment
- Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, lifting, walking, standing, and using ladders
- Must perform duties in compliance with HIPAA and patient privacy policies
Job Qualifications
- Adequate written and oral English language skills
- Ability to follow established cleaning protocols and infection control procedures
- Reliability and ability to perform duties to quality and productivity standards without constant supervision
- Willingness and ability to assist in emergencies
- Knowledge of department policies, procedures, and OSHA chemical safety requirements
- Training in disaster preparedness and anti-terrorism awareness
- Ability to work all shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
Job Duties
- Cleans and supplies patient rooms, wards, nursing stations, exam rooms, lounges, lavatories, bathrooms, offices, corridors, and other assigned areas in accordance with environmental healthcare procedures, hospital objectives, and AHE service level classification standards
- Uses cleaning devices including light mops, wringers, microfiber systems, dusters, HEPA-filtered vacuums, rotary machines (175rpm and 2000 rpm), and other necessary tools, EPA-registered chemicals, and supplies per Safety Data Sheet requirements
- Performs specific cleaning tasks such as dusting surfaces, emptying and sanitizing waste receptacles, damp-wiping and disinfecting furniture and high-touch surfaces, cleaning plumbing fixtures, mopping floors, stripping and refinishing floors, applying disinfectants with proper dwell times, spot-cleaning walls and windows, replenishing supplies, making beds, and sorting linen
- Responds to and cleans emergency spills, applying appropriate spill containment and biohazard cleanup procedures and regulated medical waste handling protocols
- Maintains assigned equipment in clean, safe, and operational condition and reports defects or needed repairs promptly
- Reports observed facility defects in equipment, furniture, and building components
- Travels to Brandon area for floor care as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
