The Lifestyle Director at Oaks Senior Living plays a critical leadership role within the community’s management team. This full-time position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing an activities program that aligns with the organization's philosophy and addresses the diverse needs and preferences of residents. The Lifestyle Director ensures that activities are engaging and meaningful, promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being among residents. Key duties include developing a monthly activities calendar, organizing special events and holiday celebrations, coordinating with kitchen services for event-related dining needs, and managing transportation for outings and medical appointments.

An essential aspect of the role is volunteer management, where the Lifestyle Director recruits, trains, and supports volunteers, including residents’ family members, to enhance community involvement and enrich the program offerings. The Director also facilitates resident move-ins by helping new residents feel welcomed and connected. By maintaining an open forum through resident council meetings, the Lifestyle Director advocates resident voices and preferences, ensuring the activities program continually evolves to meet their needs.

In addition to overseeing resident programs, the Lifestyle Director supports staff through ongoing coaching and promotes teamwork consistent with Oaks Senior Living’s supportive culture. The role includes participation in the Manager-on-Duty rotation and adherence to regulatory standards and company policies. The Lifestyle Director obtains continuing education annually and maintains current CPR and First Aid certifications, underscoring the importance of safety and professional development in this role.

This position requires physical stamina and the ability to assist with resident transfers and daily activities. It demands a compassionate, organized, and proactive leader with excellent interpersonal skills who is deeply committed to enhancing the lives of seniors. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of one year experience working with residents in a long-term care setting
  • experience in program and event planning for older adults preferred
  • ability to interact and build relationships with older adults
  • desire to work with older adults
  • strong creativity and organizational skills
  • supervisory experience in healthcare or service industry preferred
  • clean driving record and willingness to drive company vehicle
  • must be 21 years of age
  • must have a satisfactory criminal history check
  • must have physical exam by a licensed physician
  • must have a negative drug screen
  • must be able to react in an emergency situation

Job Duties

  • Oversee implementation of life enrichment program guidelines for residents
  • develop, plan and participate in daily and weekly life enrichment programming
  • coordinate with kitchen regarding food service for special events
  • create a monthly activities calendar reflecting varied interests of residents
  • coordinate all special events including holiday events
  • utilize community resources and entertainers to schedule activities
  • strengthen local community involvement through promotion of volunteerism
  • utilize family and social history to communicate resident choices and preferences
  • provide a forum for residents to share ideas through resident council meetings
  • ensure residents are encouraged and assisted to attend activities of interest
  • adhere to each resident's care plan and notify wellness director of changes
  • facilitate resident move-ins and greet new residents
  • assist with serving meals and supervise caregiver staff
  • maintain adequate supply of equipment within budget
  • arrange transportation for outings and medical appointments
  • comply with policies, training programs, and regulations
  • participate in manager-on-duty rotation
  • lead and coach employees
  • follow infection control and resident transfer procedures
  • respond to on-the-job injuries appropriately
  • develop and maintain volunteer base
  • orient and train volunteers
  • match volunteers' interests with activities
  • supervise and support volunteers
  • encourage family members to volunteer
  • train employees to conduct activities and encourage participation
  • recognize volunteers regularly for their contributions
