Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of certified nursing assistant or certified home health aide program within the last 24 months
  • must meet applicable state certification requirements
  • a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
  • good standing on the HHA Registry if applicable
  • completion of HHA/CNA course to work for a Medicare certified agency
  • at least one year of experience as a home health aide or certified nursing assistant in the last 24 months in hospital, nursing home, or home health/hospice agency

Job Duties

  • Provides direct patient care under the direction of the RN according to the Aide Plan of Care
  • assists patients with self-administered medications including opening bottle caps, reading labels, checking doses, and observing ingestion
  • takes accurate temperature, pulse, and blood pressure measurements and reports abnormal results
  • helps maintain patient personal hygiene by performing or supervising bathing, grooming, skin care, oral care, and nail/foot care
  • assists with feeding patients and observes and records food and fluid intake
  • assists with patient toileting including bed pans, urinals, catheter bag care, and ostomy procedures
  • provides mobility assistance including exercises, positioning, turning, transfers, and ambulation
  • documents care rendered and reports changes in patient condition
  • practices infection control principles and maintains a clean, safe environment
  • assists with household duties such as light laundry, meal preparation, housekeeping, and shopping when needed with an MD order
