Job Description
Ruan is a well-established transportation and logistics company known for its commitment to safety, reliability, and people-first culture. With over 90 years of experience in the industry, Ruan has built a strong reputation for providing exceptional service across various sectors, including dedicated trucking, logistics management, and transportation solutions. The company emphasizes safety and operational excellence, striving to create a supportive work environment for its employees, which is reflected in its unionized operations and comprehensive benefits packages.
This particular role is for a local Class A CDL truck driver based in Richmond, CA, dedicated to hauling grocery products for Whole Foods. The position involves performing multi-stop deliveries using an electric pallet jack, loading and unloading refrigerated trailers to ensure timely delivery of fresh products. Drivers work with late-model day cabs and have the advantage of a skilled maintenance team supporting the fleet. Schedules are determined by union bids based on seniority, guaranteeing a 40-hour workweek with a five-day schedule and 8-to-12-hour shifts. The current opening is for a p.m. shift, which includes weekend work. This schedule allows drivers to be home daily, supporting a good work-life balance.
The pay structure is competitive, with drivers earning $33.50 per hour and guaranteed overtime for hours worked beyond eight hours per day or 40 hours per week. This translates to an average annual income between $80,000 and $90,000, with weekly paychecks providing consistent financial stability. The role requires some specific skills, such as experience in snow chaining, which is necessary to drive routes to mountainous areas like Reno and Tahoe year-round. This added expertise ensures safety and compliance under winter driving conditions.
Ruan values experienced and reliable drivers with at least nine months of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience within the past three years. In addition to driving, employees must be proficient in reading and speaking English to communicate effectively with the general public, understand highway signage, and complete required documentation. The role operates under strict safety and regulatory compliance, including adherence to the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements.
Overall, this opportunity at Ruan offers an excellent career path for CDL drivers looking for a stable, union-supported job with competitive pay, solid benefits, and the advantage of being home daily. Drivers who join Ruan benefit from a strong company culture that prioritizes people and safety, supported by decades of industry experience. If you're a dedicated driver with the required experience and qualifications, this role offers a fulfilling way to advance your trucking career while enjoying the benefits of a supportive and well-established employer.
