The Bakery Associate role at Halekulani is a vital part of the Food & Beverage team, aimed at enhancing every guest's experience within the boulangerie and associated dining areas. This position involves providing outstanding guest service while expertly preparing and serving a variety of coffee, tea, juice, and bakery items, ensuring all offerings meet the hotel's exacting standards. A Basket Associate contributes not only by executing service duties but also by maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and effective operation of the bakery section including kitchen equipment and display areas.

As a Bakery Associate, you will engage directly with guests, taking orders with a friendly and professional demeanor and utilizing suggestive selling techniques to enhance guest satisfaction and sales. You will also prepare specialty coffee and beverages, retrieve bakery products, replenish displays, and handle packaging with attention to detail and a commitment to upholding Halekulani's branding standards. This role demands an understanding of bakery products and beverage characteristics, effective communication skills to assist guests accurately, and a proactive approach in anticipating guest needs while maintaining a positive atmosphere.

Working closely under the supervision of the Bakery Supervisor and the Food & Beverage management team, this position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and a genuine passion for hospitality. Essential responsibilities include assisting with opening and closing duties, maintaining sanitation and cleanliness in assigned work areas, monitoring inventory and ordering supplies in a timely fashion, and resolving any guest complaints courteously to ensure guest satisfaction.

The Bakery Associate must also be physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods, lifting items up to 50 pounds occasionally, and performing repetitive motions. Familiarity with point-of-sale (P.O.S.) systems is important for managing transactions and settlement processes efficiently. Additionally, the role involves responding knowledgeably to guest inquiries about hotel services, local attractions, and amenities, further enhancing the guest experience.

Job Duties

  • Take guests' food and beverage orders, utilizing suggestive selling techniques
  • serve orders to guests
  • prepare beverage orders such as specialty coffee, tea and other items offered in the boulangerie and restaurant
  • assist guests with orders and prepare as requested within designated timeliness
  • maintain complete knowledge of bakery products, coffee and tea characteristics and description
  • maintain positive guest relations
  • promote program through guest interaction and feedback
  • maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment
  • anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests
  • clean and reset tables immediately
  • complete opening side duties as assigned
  • complete closing side duties as assigned
  • perform proper check settlement, tip reporting and closing reconciliation procedures
  • replenish products in display case and retrieve products from bakery area
  • maintain, prepare and stock logo packaging items for bakery items
  • be familiar with all hotel services, features and local attractions to accurately respond to guest inquiries
  • resolve guest complaints to ensure satisfaction
  • monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of work areas
  • check storage areas for proper supplies, organization and cleanliness and report deficiencies
  • establish par levels and check the status of orders ensuring timely delivery
  • assist other staff as needed
  • complete paperwork and closing duties in accordance with standards
  • perform all other necessary duties as assigned
