Labcorp is currently seeking a motivated and skilled Histotechnician to join their team in Knoxville, Tennessee. This is a full-time position with a work schedule from Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30 pm to 8:00 am, with weekend hours as needed. The position offers a $6,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates, highlighting the company's commitment to attracting qualified talent. The role of Histotechnician is critical in supporting laboratory operations by preparing human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic examination, which is essential in accurate diagnosis and patient care. This position involves working with a variety of specimens, performing precise technical duties including sectioning, embedding, staining, and conducting immunohistochemical tests. Candidates will be expected to operate and maintain both manual and automated instruments, document procedures and maintenance, and uphold rigorous quality control and safety standards.

The Histotechnician role requires attention to detail and a high level of organizational skills to process specimens efficiently within a high-volume laboratory environment. The successful candidate will play an important part in delivering timely and accurate test results that contribute directly to patient diagnosis and treatment decisions. Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a chemical or biological science, histology, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • 1 year or more histology experience or an Associates in Histology
  • Ability to embed both large and small specimens
  • Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
  • Pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Availability to work Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30 pm to 8:00 am with weekend hours as needed
  • Ability to work in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a chemical or biological science, histology, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • 1 year or more histology experience or an Associates in Histology
  • Knowledge of histology laboratory procedures and quality control
  • Ability to operate and maintain manual and automated laboratory instruments
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and standards
  • Effective communication and documentation skills

Job Duties

  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
  • Section the embedded tissue using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
  • Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
  • Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
  • Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
  • Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
