The Histology Technologist position at DMC University Laboratories, Inc., a regional and integrated laboratory system affiliated with Detroit Medical Center, presents an exceptional opportunity for healthcare professionals passionate about making a tangible difference in patient care. DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) services span all eight DMC hospitals, featuring core and specialty laboratories, rapid response labs, and an extensive outreach infrastructure that includes patient service centers and courier systems. The laboratory system offers an expansive test menu exceeding 1,000 tests, including advanced specialty testing with less than 1% of tests outsourced to reference labs. This full-time, ongoing staff position entails working a night shift from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, requiring dedication and precision in handling a broad spectrum of histology-related duties. The Histology Technologist plays a vital role in patient diagnosis by preparing surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for microscopic and pathological examination. Responsibilities include receiving, logging, and processing tissue samples using standard histological procedures such as embedding, sectioning, staining, cover slipping, and labeling. The position involves performing advanced histotechniques including immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy, assisting pathologists with gross tissue dissection, preparing reagents, maintaining laboratory equipment with quality control and preventive maintenance, and participating in training personnel and research initiatives. This role demands keen attention to detail, technical expertise, and a commitment to quality, all of which contribute significantly to the diagnostic process and ultimately patient outcomes.
