The Full-Time Histology Technician role in the Lab - Histology department at Gulf Coast Medical Center involves performing moderate to high complexity histology procedures on patient specimens and quality control materials. This position is crucial in preparing slides and data that assist pathologists and physicians in diagnosing and treating diseases. Operating under the first shift from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, the technician will engage in performing non-physician gross examinations and high complexity staining procedures as necessitated by the department's needs. The role demands sound judgment in evaluating quality control results, especially when handling abnormal or unexpected findings, ensuring accuracy in diagnostic processes. The technician will maintain laboratory instruments and equipment following manufacturer recommendations and departmental protocols to preserve the integrity of test results. Documentation of all quality control data is key to compliance and quality improvement initiatives. Participation in activities related to quality assessment, research, new procedural development, and training of new staff members is also essential. Effective communication skills and a customer-focused attitude are critical, as the technician interacts regularly with nursing staff, physicians, patients, coworkers, and other stakeholders within the Lee Health system. This role provides a competitive salary range of $27.48 to $34.36 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

Job Requirements

two to four years of formal education or training beyond high school
associate degree, bachelors degree, or certificate in laboratory science from an accredited institution required
education or training qualifications to perform non-physician gross examinations as described in CAP Anatomic Pathology Checklist and CLIA regulations required
clinical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory supervisor license required
no prior experience required
communication and interpersonal skills
general computer skills
ability to operate office equipment such as phone, fax, copier
