Job Description
Professional Transportation, Inc. (PTI) is a leading company specializing in crew transportation services for the railroad industry. Established in 1980, PTI has built a strong reputation for providing high-quality, dependable, and safe transportation solutions to railroad customers across the United States. As the nation's largest rail crew transportation company, PTI operates with a commitment to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, supporting railroad operations by ensuring crew members are transported reliably to and from their assigned locations. PTI functions much like a shuttle service, with dispatchers coordinating around-the-clock trip requests to transport train crews efficiently and securely in company-provided vehicles.
PTI is currently seeking energetic and dependable Crew Transport Drivers to join their team in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This opportunity is ideal for individuals looking to embark on a rewarding career path in a unique setting that does not require prior professional driving experience. Drivers will be employed on a night-shift basis, with a starting pay rate of $14.00 per hour specific to the Chattanooga location. Additional pay rates may vary by branch location. PTI offers a safe and supportive work environment where safety is the number one priority.
The role of Crew Transport Driver at PTI involves transporting railroad crew members safely to their designated locations as per the requests from railroad clients. Trip lengths and timing may vary, but punctuality and safety remain central to the job's responsibilities. Drivers are expected to practice safety awareness heavily, follow all company policies, and maintain clear communication with the dispatch center to facilitate smooth operations. Duties include operating vehicles between pick-up and drop-off points, opening and closing vehicle doors and hatches for crew members, and conducting thorough vehicle inspections to identify any defects or issues that require reporting.
PTI provides comprehensive on-the-job training, making it accessible for candidates without prior professional driving backgrounds to succeed and grow within the organization. The company fosters a supportive atmosphere with ample opportunities for career advancement and recognizes employee dedication to safety through recognition awards. PTI drivers enjoy numerous benefits including company-provided vehicles and fuel, health insurance plan options, paid vacation, a 401(k) retirement plan, and the comfort of being home every day, which contributes to a healthy work-life balance.
At PTI, the ideal candidate is someone who is 21 years or older, possesses a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and has at least three years of driving experience whether personal or work-related. Candidates must be capable of passing a drug screening, Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check, and a homeland security background check as part of the hiring process. Additionally, candidates must be able to reach the branch location within 30 minutes to ensure timely performance and hold or obtain a medical DOT card if applicable by state regulations.
As an equal opportunity employer, PTI is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment free from discrimination based on race, color, age, sex, religion, national origin, disability, or veteran status. The company strictly enforces a drug-free workplace policy to maintain safety and professionalism across all positions. Joining PTI means becoming part of a dedicated team that places safety first and values every employee’s contribution to seamless crew transportation services throughout the rail industry.
