Job Description
The Highlands Family Center is a dedicated part of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, a well-established educational service agency committed to supporting families and children within the community. This center operates as an early childhood family and community services hub with a strong focus on enhancing developmental opportunities for children from birth to age five. As a family resource center, it provides critical support services, activities, and learning environments designed to foster healthy child development and family engagement. The Allegheny Intermediate Unit, known for its comprehensive educational programs and services, upholds a commitment to inclusivity, equity, and providing quality support tailored to the varied needs of families it serves. The Highlands Family Center receptionist/center aide position is a full-time, 260-day role with a non-negotiable annual salary of $32,000, scheduled Monday through Friday with occasional evenings or Saturdays depending on program requirements.
This dual role combines clerical support and direct childcare responsibilities. As a receptionist, the successful candidate will be pivotal in managing office communications, providing secretarial assistance to the Site Director, and supporting general office operations such as typing, filing, and answering telephones. The receptionist also tracks and assists drop-in families, ensuring their requests are handled efficiently and compassionately. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential to maintain smooth communication within the center and its visitors.
As a center aide, the role requires hands-on childcare during family center activities, field trips, and other events. This responsibility entails maintaining the care and organization of center equipment, toys, and furnishings, as well as participating actively in planning and preparation for center-related programs. The individual in this position must be flexible, proactive, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team alongside the Family Center Site Director and Family Development Specialist. The job demands adherence to all safety and regulatory protocols, including completion of necessary clearances and health records.
This position calls for a candidate who values child development, has a basic understanding of early childhood needs, and is eager to contribute to the center's mission of fostering a welcoming, supportive environment for children and families. The ideal candidate will exhibit a balance of clerical competence and nurturing childcare abilities, reinforced by excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Opportunities for professional growth are offered through attendance at in-services, workshops, training sessions, and staff meetings. The Allegheny Intermediate Unit encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds and is an equal opportunity employer committed to compliance with all applicable federal and state anti-discrimination laws.
