Job Description

Democracy Prep Public Schools is a well-regarded educational organization committed to the academic success and civic engagement of its students. As a network of public charter schools located primarily in Harlem and the Bronx, Democracy Prep focuses on preparing scholars to succeed in the college of their choice and to become active citizens in their communities. The schools emphasize a supportive, high-expectation classroom culture that nurtures both academic rigor and personal growth, ensuring that every student reaches their full potential. With a mission deeply rooted in antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion, Democracy Prep Public Schools strives to create a welcoming environment for all students and staff alike.

For the 2026-2027 school year, Democracy Prep is seeking passionate and dedicated High School Science teachers to join their dynamic and mission-driven educational team. This role is essential to shaping the academic journey of high school students by delivering engaging, differentiated instruction in science that not only meets but exceeds rigorous educational standards. The teacher will foster a classroom culture based on high support and high expectations while contributing to the school’s commitment to social and emotional growth, and active citizenship. Teachers at Democracy Prep work collaboratively with colleagues through ongoing professional development and data-driven reflection, ensuring continuous improvement in instructional practices.

This is an in-person teaching position based at one of the schools within the Harlem and Bronx communities, requiring full-time commitment from Monday to Friday. The salary range is competitive, starting at $68,707 for first-year uncertified teachers and $75,250 for first-year certified teachers, and can reach up to $137,729 for those with extensive teaching experience and certification. Employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403B matching, parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and technology allowances such as a smartphone and a laptop.

The ideal candidate is mission-driven, holding at least a Bachelor’s degree, with a preference given to those possessing state certification and experience in urban education. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong classroom management skills, a commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive learning environment, and a dedication to continuous professional growth through coaching and collaboration. Emphasis is placed on using data to inform instructional decisions, supporting scholars socially and emotionally, and engaging them in civic discussions and community service.

Democracy Prep values diversity and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer, encouraging applicants from all backgrounds. They focus on building a staff that represents a wide variety of perspectives and experiences to enrich the school community and help fulfill their mission of educating responsible citizen-scholars who will make a meaningful impact in the world.
