Cook Children's Medical Center is a leading pediatric healthcare facility known for its commitment to providing comprehensive and advanced medical care for children. As the cornerstone of the Cook Children's health system, this medical center specializes in delivering state-of-the-art technologies, innovative research, expert treatments, surgeries, rehabilitation, and ancillary services tailored specifically to meet the unique needs of pediatric patients. Recognized as an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) and Affirmative Action (AA) employer, Cook Children's Medical Center values diversity and inclusion, proudly supporting minority, female, disability, and veteran employment opportunities. The institution is dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace culture where all employees can thrive while contributing to life-changing healthcare outcomes for children.
The Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) role within the Custom Equipment & Mobility Department at the Fort Worth campus offers an exciting opportunity for professionals passionate about enabling technology to support pediatric patients' mobility and daily living needs. This position involves performing comprehensive patient assessments and evaluations to determine the suitable equipment requirements, often collaborating with physicians or therapists to ensure optimal care plans. The ATP is responsible for conducting home assessments, managing complex fittings of equipment, and maintaining detailed documentation to uphold regulatory standards and clinical accuracy.
This role requires providing expert assistance in areas such as wheeled mobility devices, specialized seating and alternative positioning solutions, ambulation aids, environmental control units, augmented communication systems, and activities of daily living equipment. ATPs play a critical role in enhancing patient independence and quality of life by carefully selecting, fitting, and demonstrating appropriate technologies. Moreover, the position includes overseeing equipment technicians and internal staff working on custom equipment assignments to guarantee high-quality delivery and service.
The schedule for this role is a standard first shift, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, based primarily onsite at the Fort Worth campus with additional patient home visits as needed. This balance ensures direct patient interaction both in clinical and real-life home environments, enabling holistic assessments and customized solutions that address individual patient circumstances effectively. The position offers a $5,000 sign-on bonus, reinforcing Cook Children’s commitment to attracting skilled professionals who are dedicated to enhancing pediatric mobility and quality of life.
Overall, the ATP position at Cook Children's Medical Center represents a vital, impactful career path for healthcare professionals with experience in durable medical equipment (DME) and assistive technology. Individuals suited for this role are those who exhibit excellent communication and customer service skills, have mechanical aptitude to manage equipment logistics such as loading, unloading, setup, and demonstration, and possess a solid understanding of the regulatory environment governing this specialized area of healthcare. In addition, having the ability to work independently and manage a personalized schedule for patient home visits underscores the role's autonomous and dynamic nature, making it ideal for self-motivated professionals dedicated to pediatric healthcare innovation.
