Job Description
The Oncology Institute (TOI), founded in 2007 and publicly traded on NASDAQ under the ticker TOI, is a prominent healthcare organization specializing in oncology. As a dedicated community-based oncology network, TOI delivers advanced, evidence-based cancer care to a broad population of approximately 1.9 million patients across five states. With over 180 clinicians and more than 100 clinic and affiliate locations, TOI has established itself as one of the leading cancer care providers outside of traditional hospital settings. The organization focuses on cutting-edge treatments including clinical trials, transfusions, and integrated care services that align with the standards found in the most advanced medical centers. TOI's mission is to revolutionize community oncology by combining clinical excellence, innovation, and compassionate care aimed at improving patient outcomes while supporting healthcare professionals in their careers and well-being.
Physician careers at The Oncology Institute offer a unique opportunity to join a rapidly expanding network committed to value-based, patient-centric cancer care. Currently, TOI is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Hematology and Oncology Physician to join its dynamic practice in San Bernardino, California. This role provides the chance to deliver high-quality oncology care within a supportive community setting, complete with strong clinical resources and structured operational support. Physicians at TOI benefit from an integrated model that minimizes administrative burdens, allowing them to focus primarily on patient care while participating in a multidisciplinary team approach including nursing, medical assistants, and advanced practice providers.
The San Bernardino location is part of TOI's thoughtful regional expansion, aimed at meeting growing patient demand with sustainable clinic development and clinical leadership opportunities. Physicians joining this practice can expect a competitive compensation package starting at $500,000 base salary, with additional incentive programs designed to reward productivity balanced with quality care and patient outcomes. Typical total compensation can exceed $650,000 once physicians establish their practice within the community. TOI offers clear and transparent compensation discussions early in the recruitment process to ensure alignment and career satisfaction.
Beyond clinical practice, TOI promotes professional growth through pathways to medical director roles and leadership positions. Physicians interested in research can participate in clinical trials as principal investigators, contributing to the organization's clinical strategies and program development. The organization enhances physician lifestyle through generous benefits including a $100,000 guaranteed sign-on bonus, paid CME days, full insurance coverage, malpractice protection, paid time off, relocation assistance, and student loan repayment support. Additionally, TOI facilitates state licensure processes including fee payments and renewals.
San Bernardino is an attractive location for oncology professionals, offering a growing and diverse patient population with strong referral relationships through regional healthcare networks. The community balances affordability with proximity to major Southern California urban centers and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. This combination supports both professional success and quality of life for physicians and their families.
The Oncology Institute stands as a leading example of how community-based oncology can be practiced with clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and compassionate care. Physicians who join TOI become part of a mission-driven organization focused on accessibility, innovation, and sustainable growth, making it an excellent career choice for hematology and oncology specialists committed to advancing cancer care in the community.
