The Healthcare System Executive Chef role at Morrison Healthcare in Owensboro, KY represents an exciting future opportunity with a salary range of $78,000 to $86,000 and relocation assistance. This position primarily involves leading culinary operations for a large 687-bed hospital facility that includes five retail cafes and one coffee shop. The Executive Chef plays a crucial role in overseeing menu development, ensuring sanitary and safe food production, managing inventory and purchasing, controlling food costs, and fostering staff development. Typically scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, the role also includes holiday and weekend on-call duties rotated among seven managers, emphasizing teamwork and shared responsibility.
A key responsibility of the Executive Chef is to uphold and enhance culinary excellence across all food service outlets within the healthcare system, including patient board meals, retail dining, and catering services. The position demands strong leadership skills to effectively manage and inspire a 26-member culinary team, promoting best practices for food quality, sanitation, and innovative culinary trends. Additionally, the chef will spearhead initiatives related to Corporate Social Responsibility, emphasizing sustainable food sourcing, seasonality, health and wellness, and culinary arts to support the healthcare campus environment.
This role requires a strong understanding of day-to-day menu offerings to inform and engage customers accurately while routinely analyzing operational performance to implement continuous improvements. The Executive Chef should possess expertise in food cost management, inventory control, and catering event planning from a culinary perspective. Morrison Healthcare values professionals with a culinary degree or background in Food Services Technology or Management, along with three to five years of progressive culinary or kitchen management experience. Ideal candidates may have experience in healthcare, higher education, country clubs, or full-service restaurant settings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and internet tools, along with ServSafe certification, is also expected.
