Job Description

Legacy Pointe at UCF is a premier continuing care retirement community situated in the heart of Oviedo, Florida. This state-of-the-art facility emphasizes the Pinnacles of Hospitality, Service, and Accountability to ensure warm welcomes, outstanding care, and a strong sense of responsibility. The Healthcare Activities Assistant plays a pivotal role in developing and facilitating a diverse range of lifestyle programs designed to promote the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being of residents. This part-time position, scheduled for every other weekend, reports to the Healthcare Activities Manager and requires collaboration with various departments such as nursing, therapy, and dining services to deliver holistic care. The assistant helps plan, coordinate, and execute individual and group activities tailored to accommodate the unique abilities and interests of residents with varying cognitive and physical needs. Additionally, this role supports special events, seasonal celebrations, and community outings to enhance resident engagement and promote independence in a safe and supportive manner.

This role demands physical adaptability, as it involves standing, lifting, and assisting with mobility, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, a caring and compassionate attitude, and the flexibility to respond to residents' evolving needs. CPR and First Aid certification are preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire, and prior experience in senior living, healthcare, or recreational programming is advantageous.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in senior living, healthcare, recreation, or activities programming preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to follow established schedules and rules

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Coursework or certification in recreation therapy, gerontology, or related field is a plus
  • Previous experience in senior living, healthcare, recreation, or activities programming preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organizational skills with ability to engage residents of varying needs
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Experience in event planning, creative programming, or wellness initiatives is a plus
  • Ability to follow specific rules and resident schedules
  • Ability to work in a polite, respectful, caring, calm, and compassionate way
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities

Job Duties

  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and executing lifestyle programs for residents in various care settings
  • Lead and engage residents in individual and group activities
  • Encourage resident participation while adapting activities for different physical and cognitive abilities
  • Support organization of holiday celebrations, themed events, and special occasions
  • Assist in decorating common areas for events and seasons
  • Build positive relationships with residents and their families
  • Communicate with residents to gather feedback and tailor activities
  • Ensure a warm, welcoming, and interactive environment
  • Work with Healthcare Activities Manager to align activity programs with wellness initiatives
  • Coordinate with nursing, therapy, dining services, and other departments
  • Track and document resident participation to evaluate program effectiveness
  • Coordinate and accompany residents on community outings ensuring safety
  • Maintain accurate records of resident attendance and participation
  • Update resident activity plans and report observations to the care team
  • Protect resident confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations
  • Collaborate with team members for seamless execution of activities
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and program materials
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support resident well-being
