Job Description

Dameron Hospital Association is a well-established healthcare provider committed to offering high-quality medical services to its community. Known for its compassionate patient care and dedicated healthcare professionals, Dameron Hospital strives to create a supportive, efficient, and collaborative environment for both patients and staff. The hospital operates a variety of units including medical-surgical and telemetry units, playing a critical role in the health and well-being of the populations it serves. As an organization, Dameron values continuous quality improvement, adherence to regulatory standards, and the promotion of a positive workplace culture that aligns with its mission and core values. Employee satisfaction and professional growth are key priorities, making Dameron an employer of choice within the healthcare sector.

The role of Unit Clerk at Dameron Hospital is pivotal in ensuring smooth operations within the medical-surgical and telemetry units. This union position offers a meaningful opportunity for individuals who excel at clerical work, customer service, and are comfortable working within a healthcare setting. The Unit Clerk acts as a key liaison between patients, visitors, physicians, and nursing staff, providing vital support that facilitates nursing operations and enhances patient satisfaction. Responsibilities include performing clerical tasks such as transcribing provider orders using various essential computer systems, maintaining medical records accurately, and coordinating communication within the unit. In addition, the Unit Clerk monitors telemetry equipment, promptly alerts nursing staff to any alarms or changes in patient rhythms, and supports the overall safety of the patient environment.

This position demands proficiency in multiple hospital information systems, including MedSeries, PharmPro, Siemens, ChartMaxx, and others, along with skilled use of communication tools such as fax machines and the WestCom paging system. The Unit Clerk is also responsible for managing admission, discharge, and transfer documentation efficiently, processing orders correctly, and ensuring that patient charts and records are systematically organized and maintained. A crucial aspect of the job is demonstrating service excellence through active customer engagement using AIDET communication techniques and adherence to hospital policies.

Dameron Hospital encourages ongoing professional development; therefore, participation in educational programs, in-service training, and competency assessments is an integral part of this role. Maintaining telemetry monitoring competency by passing rhythm identification tests every six months is a key requirement, ensuring the Unit Clerk can effectively support clinical staff in monitoring patient heart rhythms. The position also involves tasks such as delivering medications and laboratory specimens, scheduling patient transportation, and assisting in the maintenance of safe and orderly workspaces.

Candidates for this position must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Computer literacy, specifically in data entry and hospital order entry systems, is essential. The Unit Clerk must also uphold patient confidentiality at all times in compliance with HIPAA and related privacy laws. A current BLS certification is required, and certification by the National Association of Healthcare Unit Clerks (NAHUC) is preferred.

The position is a part-time role with 0.3 FTE status, typically involving 12-hour variable shifts, offering flexibility for those seeking a balance between work and personal life. Joining Dameron Hospital as a Unit Clerk means becoming part of a committed healthcare team dedicated to exceptional patient care and operational excellence within a supportive and respectful work environment.
