Job Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Unit Coordinator/Clerk program or one-year related job experience or college coursework
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Proficient in typing, spelling, and medical terminology
  • Effective communication skills

Job Duties

  • Perform receptionist and secretary activities for assigned unit embodying the principles of service
  • Greet patients, guests, and staff courteously
  • Interact with patients and families appropriate to specialty and age
  • Utilize professional telephone etiquette
  • Promptly answer telephones and intercoms
  • Accurately route calls and messages
  • Use computer and printing equipment to process clinical information
  • Process electronic mail and messages promptly
  • Maintain bulletins, unit manuals, and files
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail
  • Maintain accurate logs and records
  • Organize and prioritize work aspects
  • Enter and retrieve information via hospital automated system
  • Practice positive guest and peer relations through effective communication
  • Address guest/customer complaints
  • Maintain unit medical records ensuring proper assembly and filing
  • Notify staff of orders, admissions, transfers, and discharges promptly
  • Follow up for ancillary services as ordered
  • Transcribe and enter patient information accurately
  • Compile statistics and maintain census reports
  • Maintain and track unit equipment and supplies
  • Monitor and order repair for equipment
  • Inventory supplies and equipment
  • Assist in patient care-related errands and communications
  • Follow safety measures and emergency actions
  • Assist nursing and admitting with patient room assignments
  • Coordinate patient schedules
  • Maintain neat and orderly unit environment
  • Act as patient/family advocate
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities
  • Demonstrate acceptable productivity and cost containment
  • Function as interdependent team member
  • Accept responsibility for own growth and development
