The University of Miami, a prestigious private research university located in Coral Gables, Florida, is renowned for its commitment to excellence in education, research, and healthcare. Among its many esteemed institutions, the UHealth-University of Miami Health System stands out as South Florida's only university-based health system. Powered by groundbreaking research and medical education delivered by the Miller School of Medicine, UHealth provides leading-edge patient care and serves a diverse population across South Florida, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The health system's physicians represent more than 100 specialties and subspecialties, handling over one million patient encounters yearly. This tradition of excellence has earned the University of Miami worldwide recognition for outstanding teaching, research, and patient care.

The University of Miami is currently seeking a dedicated Full Time Hospital Safety Officer to join the UHealth department of Radiation Control at the UHealth Medical Campus. This critical role involves ensuring compliance with all Joint Commission guidelines related to the Physical Environment of Care standards at the hospital and its clinics. Responsibilities involve continuous monitoring of environment of care data, participating in hospital committees, updating relevant policies, and assisting in enforcement of life safety plans and infection control risk assessments.

In addition, the Hospital Safety Officer plays a vital role in managing radiation safety practices within UHealth facilities. Reporting directly to the Radiation Control Center leadership, this position supports the Radiation Safety Officer and ensures adherence to radiation safety protocols. Duties include conducting radiation safety surveys and monitoring, providing training and education, overseeing compliance with federal and state regulations, managing hazardous materials, and responding to incidents effectively.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of relevant experience and preferably hold certifications such as Certified Health Physicist or Radiation Safety Technician. Strong interpersonal skills, commitment to the University’s core values, and abilities in department operations management, strategic planning, training, and leadership are vital for excelling in this role. Familiarity with utilizing computer applications for managing data, reporting, and communication will be required, along with the ability to handle protected health information with discretion.

The University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and tuition remission, supporting its employees' personal and professional growth. This position is a full-time staff opportunity that presents a unique challenge for individuals passionate about hospital safety, radiation control, and healthcare compliance in a dynamic academic medical center environment. The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to diversity and protecting applicants and employees from discrimination based on federally protected categories.
