Job Description

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP), a joint venture comprising Flatiron, Dragados USA, and VINCI, is spearheading the $3.3 billion design-build project, the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). This ambitious infrastructure endeavor spans a 9-mile section of Interstate 64 and includes the construction of a state-of-the-art 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing designed to accommodate eight lanes of traffic, replacement of existing marine approach bridges, and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The project is notable for its engineering feat, featuring twin 45-foot diameter, 1.5-mile tunnels bored by tunnel boring machines (TBMs), establishing the second largest TBM tunnel opening project in North America.

Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV is committed to innovation, safety, and collaboration, fostering an environment where industry experts and dedicated teams work synergistically, valuing individual contributions and recognizing achievements. As a leading player in civil construction, the company emphasizes cutting-edge techniques and adherence to the highest standards of workplace safety and environmental stewardship throughout the project lifecycle.

The role of Health and Safety Coordinator is pivotal within this dynamic construction project. This position requires a proactive professional passionate about cultivating a culture of safety, enhancing workplace safety standards, and actively preventing accidents and injuries. The Health and Safety Coordinator will conduct thorough inspections, evaluations, and training, while providing vital technical support to work crews to ensure full compliance with the company’s Health and Safety programs and agency regulations.

Candidates for this role will engage in detailed daily site walk-throughs to identify, document, and resolve potential safety risks, utilizing company-prescribed procedures and software for Daily Hazard Analysis (DHA). The coordinator will assess safety equipment needs for various project activities, ensuring essential equipment is ordered, stocked, and readily available. Furthermore, this position entails assisting in thorough investigations and reporting concerning accidents, injuries, illnesses, property damage, and other safety-related incidents to guarantee timely and compliant remedial actions.

The Health and Safety Coordinator will also provide first aid and emergency response services to onsite injuries or incidents, maintaining accurate documentation of such events and coordinating offsite medical attention when necessary. Supporting the evaluation of subcontractors and their safety programs is another key responsibility, with an emphasis on identifying non-compliance issues and participating in corrective action discussions to swiftly resolve them. The role involves regularly presenting toolbox talk content to site staff and reporting project safety program progress to leadership, demonstrating clear communication and accountability.

This full-time role offers a competitive salary range from $80,000 to $100,000 annually. It caters to candidates with at least three years of construction or safety training experience and emphasizes the ability to multitask, organize effectively, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision. The ideal applicant will bring a general knowledge of construction site equipment, methods, and processes, alongside strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills. By joining HRCP, candidates will not only advance their careers by working on one of the most prestigious infrastructure projects in the region but also contribute meaningfully to a safer, more efficient construction environment.
