Job Description

The Town of Windsor is a vibrant and community-oriented municipal body located in Colorado, dedicated to providing top-notch recreational services and facilities to its residents. The Aquatics Division within the Town of Windsor offers well-maintained aquatic facilities, including both indoor and outdoor pools. The outdoor pool operates seasonally, typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors to engage in swimming and aquatic activities.

The Head Lifeguard position is a pivotal role within the Aquatics Division and involves significant responsibility for the overall safety and proper functioning of the aquatic facilities. This is a dynamic role with varied shifts, including early mornings, weekends, midday, and evenings, to ensure comprehensive supervision throughout the pool operation hours. As the Head Lifeguard, the individual will oversee on-site aquatic facility supervision, pool maintenance, staff scheduling, public relations, addressing concerns, maintaining security, and generating shift reports. Leadership duties include training, auditing lifeguard performance, and assisting with staffing decisions such as hiring and scheduling lifeguards and swim lesson instructors.

Job Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age
must have current Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certifications
previous lifeguarding experience preferred but not required
ability to perform the necessary functions of the position and make appropriate decisions consistent with job expectations
ability to perform rescue and lifeguard skills based upon American Red Cross Lifeguard Training criteria daily
sufficient strength to make rescues and lift 50 lbs
ability to handle reasonably necessary stress
ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public

Job Qualifications

Must have current Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certifications

Job Duties

Assists with scheduling all pool activities and private rentals to ensure optimum pool usage
assists in hiring, training, and scheduling qualified lifeguards, instructors, and all other pool staff
monitors activities and directs scanning of the swimming pool and adjacent areas to prevent injuries, accidents, or drownings
rescues swimmers in distress and/or danger of drowning within 30 seconds of recognizing distress and administers CPR and first aid
assures the maximum safety of pool patrons
performs regular safety inspections of pools and equipment to reduce hazards and provide maximum safety to patrons
attempts to modify dangerous guest behaviors and enforce all pool rules and regulations by strongly and quickly addressing behaviors
administers emergency care (Basic Life Support/CPR) and first aid treatment as necessary
effectively handles complaints and disciplinary problems involving patrons of the pool
consistently attends scheduled in-service training to maintain current knowledge of lifeguarding techniques and procedures
ensures the safety and well-being of the public by conducting staff training in water safety, first aid, and CPR
maintains proper pool chemical balance and general water cleanliness, including routine maintenance such as backwashing, sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and washing
operates and maintains pool equipment and conducts daily walk-throughs of the facility
assists in facilitating emergency action procedures for aquatic and facility areas
demonstrates safe work habits with awareness of co-workers and public safety
handles various reports and records such as chemical logs and incident reports
assists other aquatic staff members as needed
maintains the cleanliness of the facility locker rooms daily
ensures safety regulations and procedures are adhered to
performs related work as required and assigned
participates and assists in the implementation of town-wide special events
handles cash, completes cash reports and deposits, and monitors concession operations if working in the outdoor pool area
performs research as directed
assists other town departments/divisions as necessary.
