Job Description

The Town of Windsor is a vibrant and community-focused municipality located in Colorado, known for its commitment to providing exceptional public services and recreational opportunities to its residents and visitors. Windsor's Recreation Division plays a crucial role in fostering a healthy, active lifestyle by offering a wide variety of recreational programs and aquatic facilities. The Aquatics Division specifically manages both indoor and outdoor aquatic centers, providing safe and enjoyable experiences for swimmers of all ages. The outdoor pool typically operates seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day, while the indoor pool is available year-round, ensuring consistent aquatic access for the community. The Town values dedication to public safety, diversity, and inclusion, adhering strictly to equal employment opportunity principles and the town’s PRIDE philosophy.

The Head Lifeguard position in the Aquatics Division is an important leadership role responsible for overseeing the safety, maintenance, and operation of the aquatic facilities. This is a seasonal, part-time to full-time position with varied shifts including early mornings, weekends, midday, and evening shifts to ensure comprehensive coverage of pool activities and rentals. The role pays between $18.14 and $19.73 per hour, depending on the candidate's skills and qualifications.

As Head Lifeguard, the individual is primarily responsible for the on-site supervision of aquatic facilities, whether the indoor or outdoor pools, ensuring the well-being of all patrons and staff while maintaining top safety standards. This includes general oversight of lifeguard staff and swim lesson instructors, facilitating their training, scheduling shifts, and monitoring performance to ensure compliance with safety protocols and operational guidelines. The position demands a proactive approach to enforcing regulations, addressing incident reports, and maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the pool and surrounding environments. Additionally, the Head Lifeguard is tasked with administering emergency care such as Basic Life Support (CPR) and first aid whenever necessary.

The role requires a thorough understanding of lifeguarding techniques, aquatic safety practices, and facility maintenance, including pool chemical management and operation of pool filtration systems. The individual is expected to conduct regular safety inspections, handle public relations matters professionally, and resolve complaints promptly. This position also plays a key role in teaching lifeguard courses and maintaining certification standards for the team, supporting a high level of staff competency.

Due to the nature of the work, this role involves physical activities like climbing, balancing, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds, with environmental exposure to heat, noise, and pool chemicals. Being safety-sensitive, the position demands responsible and alert behavior at all times to ensure the safety of all pool users and staff. It also requires excellent communication skills, the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.

The Town of Windsor promotes equal opportunity employment and provides reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities. The role requires current certifications in Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR, preferably with certifications in Swim Lesson Instruction and Lifeguard Instruction or the willingness to obtain them within the first year of employment. Head Lifeguard experience is preferred but not mandatory.

This description highlights the essential responsibilities and requirements of the Head Lifeguard position, reflecting the Town of Windsor's dedication to maintaining safe and enjoyable aquatic environments. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to community wellness while advancing leadership and aquatic safety skills in a supportive public service setting.
