The Head Cook position at Legends Global's Stockton Complex plays a vital role in ensuring the culinary excellence and operational success of the kitchen during events. This role demands a high level of culinary expertise, leadership, and organizational skills, as the Head Cook is responsible for overseeing all kitchen functions. These include the purchasing and preparation of food, maintaining stringent quality standards, and ensuring sanitation and cleanliness protocols are rigorously followed. Additionally, the Head Cook is tasked with training kitchen staff, guiding them in cooking techniques, meal preparation, and plate presentation to guarantee that every dish served meets the company’s high standards.

Beyond technical culinary responsibilities, the Head Cook manages the event-day kitchen operations, coordinating food production to deliver superior taste, quality, and presentation suitable for large banquet and event settings. Supervising temporary labor and collaborating closely with the Kitchen Manager to ensure smooth daily operations are essential parts of this role. The Head Cook also designs enticing buffet food presentations and ensures all kitchen equipment remains clean and well-maintained through regular upkeep and preventative maintenance.

This position requires a hands-on approach and a proactive mindset to uphold a clean, safe working environment while delivering an exceptional dining experience. The Head Cook must demonstrate excellent customer relations, communication, and problem-solving skills to address any kitchen or event-related challenges effectively. Physical stamina is necessary as the role involves standing for extended periods, lifting up to 30 pounds, and performing other physical tasks pertinent to kitchen operations.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED certificate
  • 1 year experience in a banquet facility preparing meals for large events
  • 1 year experience in culinary
  • demonstrate exceptional skills in customer relations, communications, and problem solving
  • follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form
  • work independently, exercising good judgment and initiative
  • ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks
  • maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others while working
  • ability to work flexible hours including daytime, evening, weekends, and holidays
  • physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, lifting, stooping, and walking
  • must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
  • Food Handler's Permit or ability to obtain one upon hire
  • attend all Legends Global Alcohol and Policy Training Classes

Job Duties

  • Manage the event day operation of the kitchen, coordinate food production and ensure the highest level of food quality, taste and presentation
  • supervise temporary labor
  • fulfill the service per each Banquet Event Order (BEO)
  • prepare recipes as directed
  • maintain all kitchen equipment cleanliness and annual maintenance
  • design buffet food presentations
  • maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • other duties as assigned
