Job Description

Mary Bryan Elementary is part of a dedicated educational community focused on fostering the growth and development of students through comprehensive learning and supportive services. The school is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive academically and socially. Integral to this environment is the Child Nutrition Services department, which plays a vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of students by ensuring they have access to nutritious meals throughout the school day. This department ensures compliance with federal and state nutrition guidelines and promotes healthy eating habits among students, ultimately contributing to improved focus and performance in the classroom.

The Head Cashier position at Mary Bryan Elementary is a critical role within the Child Nutrition Services team. This role is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of cash handling within the food service operation, including processing student and staff meal accounts and ensuring accurate deposit of all collected funds. The Head Cashier operates the Skyward Point of Sale terminal during lunch periods, meticulously verifying reimbursable meals and accurately recording all transactions in the Food Service Skyward program. Attention to detail and integrity are paramount, as the role involves managing daily deposits, generating financial and meal count reports, preparing deposit slips for banking, and managing communications regarding negative account balances to guardians and staff.

Beyond cash management, this role includes significant operational responsibilities such as assisting with food preparation, serving, inventory control, and maintaining sanitation standards in the kitchen. The Head Cashier collaborates closely with the food service team by helping plan food supply needs, receiving shipments, and supporting training efforts for new employees in cashiering, food preparation, and equipment use. This leadership component extends to supervising daily food service activities, addressing staff performance, resolving complaints, and ensuring adherence to cleanliness and safety standards. This role demands someone who demonstrates leadership and supervision skills, cash management expertise, culinary knowledge, and the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.

The position is a non-exempt role with a pay rate of $17.85 per hour, working 182 days per year for 4 to 7.5 hours per day. The work environment requires physical stamina, including standing for extended periods and lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 25 pounds. The Head Cashier must comply with various regulations and policies, maintain confidentiality, and participate in professional development activities to uphold standards and stay current with food safety practices. ServSafe Certification is mandatory within 12 months of hiring, highlighting the commitment to food safety and sanitation.

This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience or interest in food service operations within an educational setting. It offers the chance to contribute to a positive and productive kitchen environment while playing a critical role in supporting the nutritional needs of students and staff. By joining Mary Bryan Elementary's Child Nutrition Services team as a Head Cashier, the successful candidate will be part of an organization that values teamwork, integrity, and dedication to student well-being and community support.
