Head Carpenter

The Crew Chief position at Van Andel Arena is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the technical crew during events from load-in to load-out. This role serves as the primary point of contact for clients, vendors, and in-house building staff to ensure the seamless execution of events. The Crew Chief’s duties include managing and directing the efforts of other IATSE House Heads and on-call union employees, coordinating with technical service providers, and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders. Additionally, this role involves completing and submitting detailed steward reports related to employee hours and wages, contributing to the ASM safety committee, and ensuring strict adherence to attendance policies. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and customer service skills, a strong understanding of sound, lighting, and audiovisual equipment, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. This is a physically demanding job that often requires working nights and weekends, and the ability to lift up to 75 pounds and stand for extended periods is essential. Employment terms, including wages and working conditions, are governed by a collective bargaining agreement with I.A.T.S.E. Local 26.
