Job Description
Park Hyatt Aviara is one of San Diego's premier destination locations, renowned as a AAA Five-Diamond luxury resort. Nestled in Carlsbad, California, this recently renovated resort features striking architecture and offers a blend of sophisticated and approachable luxury. Spread over 200 lush acres of natural beauty, Park Hyatt Aviara is a haven for guests seeking relaxation and world-class recreation. The resort boasts an exquisite spa, an 18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer, and a variety of other recreational amenities that combine to create a unique resort getaway experience. Its location highlights the natural splendor of Carlsbad while offering exceptional service and hospitality that embody the Hyatt brand's commitment to luxury and guest satisfaction.
The Head Baker role at Park Hyatt Aviara is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled and passionate baking professional to join a luxury resort environment that prioritizes quality and excellence. This position focuses on the preparation of laminated doughs, breads, pastries, and other baked goods. The successful candidate will be responsible for crafting high-quality products such as croissants, Danish pastries, and puff pastry while maintaining precision in measuring and mixing ingredients to ensure consistency and excellence. Working as the Head Baker involves a blend of creativity and technical skill, requiring adherence to recipes with the flexibility to adjust for seasonal ingredients and availability. The role demands maintaining cleanliness and organization in the work area, strict compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, and managing baking times and temperatures to deliver optimal product quality.
Beyond baking duties, the Head Baker will collaborate with the culinary team to develop new recipes and enhance existing products, contributing to the resort’s continuous innovation in its food offerings. Inventory management responsibilities include ordering and receiving baking supplies, ensuring the kitchen is well-stocked to meet daily production needs. Equipment maintenance is also critical, as timely reporting of maintenance issues helps avoid operational disruptions.
This full-time position offers an hourly wage of $30.00 and includes a competitive benefits package typical of Hyatt properties. Benefits include complimentary employee meals and parking, discounted hotel stays worldwide, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, a 401K plan with matching contributions, an employee stock purchase plan, and educational reimbursement. This package reflects Hyatt’s dedication to supporting its employees' well-being and professional growth.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a baker or pastry cook in a professional kitchen, with strong expertise in laminated dough techniques and bread pastry production. Familiarity with diverse baking methods and equipment is essential, as is the ability to work early mornings starting around 4:00 AM with flexibility for additional hours as needed. Strong attention to detail, superior time management skills, the ability to perform under pressure, and excellent communication skills are essential traits for success in this role. Most importantly, the candidate must be a team player, ready to contribute to a dynamic work environment and uphold the high standards expected at a luxury resort like Park Hyatt Aviara.
