Job Description
Hayes Mansion is a prestigious hotel located in Northern California, renowned for its comfortable elegance amid lush landscapes and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. As a notable Silicon Valley destination, the property recently underwent a $20 million revitalization and repositioning effort to enhance its appeal to visitors. The Mansion offers guests exceptional accommodations for various occasions, from Bay Area leisure vacations to professional conferences. Situated just 15 miles from San Jose International Airport, Hayes Mansion provides easy access to a diverse range of local attractions including the cultural riches of San Francisco, the acclaimed vineyards of Napa Valley, the serene beaches of Santa Cruz, and premier golf courses nearby.
This inviting and high-standard environment reflects the Mansion's dedication to providing world-class service and memorable guest experiences. To support this vision, the hotel continuously seeks talented professionals who are passionate about hospitality and culinary excellence. The Cook III position is a vital role within the hotel’s food and beverage team, entrusted with ensuring the highest standards of food quality and presentation across all dining outlets. This role is crafted for a culinary expert who not only excels in preparing exceptional dishes but also demonstrates strong leadership, effective communication, and sharp problem-solving skills.
The Cook III, often referred to as a culinary captain and kitchen quarterback, oversees the kitchen team by leading and supporting kitchen staff to achieve smooth and efficient operations. This role requires managing food preparation and presentation with great attention to detail, maintaining compliance with strict food safety regulations, and fostering a collaborative environment through clear communication with both team members and guests. Additionally, the Cook III acts decisively in high-pressure situations, anticipating needs and solving issues promptly to maintain quality and service consistency.
Financial responsibility is also a key aspect of the role. The Cook III monitors kitchen costs by utilizing financial data and basic arithmetic to make informed, cost-effective decisions that support the hotel’s operational goals while maintaining excellent food standards. The position demands open availability, including weekends and holidays, with varied schedules based on hotel demand, making it a dynamic and engaging opportunity for culinary professionals committed to excellence.
Candidates for this position are expected to bring significant experience, with at least seven years of progressive culinary experience or else be a culinary graduate with a minimum of two years’ progressive experience in a hotel or related setting. Proper certifications such as Food Handlers Certification must be maintained per state requirements. Those who join Hayes Mansion in full-time capacity can look forward to a comprehensive benefits package after an initial waiting period, featuring medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, and more.
This role is perfect for those who thrive in a high-quality, fast-paced culinary environment and are eager to contribute to the reputation and success of a prominent Northern California hotel.
