Job Description
Hawaiian Airlines is Hawaii's largest airline and a significant contributor to the tourism and travel industry within the Hawaiian Islands and throughout the Pacific region. Known for its warm hospitality and aloha spirit, Hawaiian Airlines prides itself on delivering exceptional service to its guests while embracing the values of caring for its employees, the environment, and the communities it serves. The airline maintains a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring equal opportunity in all facets of employment. It operates a vast network of domestic and international flights, connecting Hawaii with key destinations in Asia, North America, and the South Pacific. The company fosters a collaborative and supportive culture that encourages employees to achieve their professional goals as part of the extended 'ohana, or family, while contributing to the company's legacy of excellence and safety in air travel.
The Aircraft Mechanic Apprenticeship Program (AMAP) at Hawaiian Airlines is a unique collaboration with the University of Hawai'i Honolulu Community College's Aeronautics Maintenance Technology program, the U.S. Department of Labor/Veterans' Employment & Training Service, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). This program is designed to provide individuals with critical, supervised hands-on experience to bolster their training and help them achieve their Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license. The apprenticeship opportunity targets students currently enrolled in an accredited FAA A&P school with a minimum of six months of study, as well as former military personnel pursuing their certification. Enrollees gain valuable exposure to base maintenance work and preventative repair procedures on Hawaiian Airlines aircraft under the mentorship of lead mechanics. Apprentices are entrusted with performing technical tasks, problem solving, and ensuring the highest safety standards consistent with Federal Aviation Regulations. Upon successful completion and licensure, apprentices are offered full-time employment as aircraft mechanics at Hawaiian Airlines, positioning them for a rewarding career in aviation maintenance. The position is part-time regular with competitive compensation starting at $30.02 per hour and offers comprehensive benefits including healthcare, 401k matching, paid time off, bonuses, and travel privileges. The roles require physical fitness for lifting and maneuvering equipment and dependability for shift work. This apprenticeship program not only equips future mechanics with critical skills but also helps fill vital positions that keep Hawaiian Airlines' fleet safe and operational.
