The role of Hawaii Coordinator within the Nippon Rent A Car (NRC) department at JTB Hawaii offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about customer service and the travel industry. This is an hourly-paid position, offering a salary range of $17.00 to $22.50, ideal for those who enjoy working in an engaging, fast-paced environment where communication and attention to detail are crucial. The NRC department specifically focuses on managing and processing rent-a-car reservations and agreements, while ensuring that customers have a seamless and enjoyable rental experience. The coordinator will provide direct support in answering customer inquiries, explaining rental policies, and addressing questions to facilitate excellent service delivery. Responsibilities also include handling payment processing, completing paperwork, resolving minor issues promptly, assisting with emergencies, and collaborating with management regarding operational incidents such as accidents or flight delays.

This position requires a bilingual candidate fluent in both English and Japanese, with a sound understanding of Japanese culture and etiquette, as well as experience in the travel or rental car industry. The role demands proficiency in basic computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications and standard office equipment. Furthermore, it requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, exhibiting strong organizational skills, problem-solving capabilities, and a customer-focused mindset. Working hours are generally from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Sunday through Saturday, including holidays as necessary, along with the possibility of overtime and weekend shifts with prior approval.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • more than one year of experience in the travel industry or related field
  • bilingual in English and Japanese
  • understanding of Japanese culture and etiquette
  • valid Hawaii driver's license with clean abstract
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications
  • ability to work independently and cooperatively
  • strong communication and organizational skills
  • availability to work normal business hours including weekends and holidays as needed

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • possess more than one year of experience in the travel industry or equivalent skills
  • bilingual language skills to speak, read and write in both English and Japanese
  • possess knowledge of the tour industry, tour movements, and arrangements
  • understanding of Japanese culture and etiquette
  • working knowledge of basic computer systems, Microsoft Office, email, and office equipment
  • able to plan, organize, and assign activities
  • possess valid Hawaii driver's license with a clean abstract

Job Duties

  • Provide customer service for rent-a-car reservations and walk-ins
  • explain rental policies and address customer inquiries
  • process rental of vehicles and optional products
  • collect payment and complete required paperwork
  • resolve minor problems and complaints
  • assist with emergencies and update management on incidents
  • perform basic revenue tracking and process marketing data for daily reports
