This role demands an individual who is adept at managing various food prep tasks, organizing and storing ingredients correctly, and contributing to the upkeep of a clean, safe, and orderly kitchen environment.

In this position, the candidate will be responsible for preparing the necessary components for daily meal production including soups, sauces, salads, vegetables, and breakfast preparations. Attention to detail is critical, as is the ability to follow recipes, measure ingredients accurately, and store food items with proper labeling and protective coverings to minimize waste and spoilage. The role also requires proficiency with kitchen tools and utensils such as knives, spoons, spatulas, and tongs, alongside the physical ability to work in confined and temperature-variable spaces characteristic of commercial kitchen environments.

This is a hands-on role requiring both physical stamina and mental focus. The candidate should be comfortable lifting weights up to 50 pounds and performing continuous walking or standing during long shifts, as well as engaging in activities demanding fine motor skills, clear communication, and teamwork. The individual reports directly to the chef overseeing the kitchen department and frequently collaborates with both Culinary and Food and Beverage teams to align culinary operations with overall service excellence.

Job Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of fundamentals of cooking
  • basic knowledge of accepted standards of sanitation
  • knowledge of operating kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, broilers, steamers, kettles
  • basic mathematical skills to understand recipes, measurements, and portion sizes
  • sufficient manual dexterity to use all kitchen equipment including knives, spoons, spatulas, tongs, slices
  • ability to perform duties in confined spaces
  • ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges
  • physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs with frequent lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs
  • ability to walk or stand for extended periods
  • ability to talk, hear and see as required in the job

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • culinary or apprenticeship program preferred
  • minimum two to three years cooking experience in a hotel/restaurant environment
  • combination of education, training or experience that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • ability to read and write English language to read recipes and communicate effectively

Job Duties

  • Supplying assigned workstation with all needed products and culinary equipment for prompt production
  • preparing all the prep work for soups, sauces, salads, vegetables, and breakfast
  • storing all food in refrigerated boxes including covers, labels and dates, using the proper containers to protect against waste and spoilage
  • maintaining area in a clean condition at all times
  • perform general/routine cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere to health standards
  • keep floors dry and clean to avoid slip/fall accidents
  • perform other duties as requested, such as moving supplies and equipment, cleaning up slips, etc., to ensure safe working environment
