This role is for a reliable and experienced School Custodian who will be responsible for performing general cleaning duties within designated areas in K-12 schools, colleges, or university campus environments. The employment opportunity is ideal for individuals entering or re-entering the workforce, with no formal education or prior experience required, as on-the-job training will be provided. As a school custodian, you will play an essential part in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming educational environment conducive to learning and community well-being. The position involves cleaning classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, stairways, and other facility areas with meticulous attention to detail.

Duties include sweeping, mopping, removing debris and spills, cleaning and polishing furniture and fixtures, caring for restrooms, collecting and separating recycling, and conducting seasonal outdoor tasks such as sweeping walks, raking leaves, cutting grass, and snow removal. The custodian must also adhere to safety and quality standards, properly use cleaning chemicals and equipment, notify supervisors of maintenance needs, and establish good working relationships with clients, coworkers, and management. Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • No experience required as on-the-job training is provided
  • No high school diploma, GED or college degree required
  • Ability to follow safety and quality standards
  • Ability to perform physical cleaning and maintenance tasks
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to work in varied weather conditions for seasonal tasks

Job Qualifications

  • Prior customer service experience preferred
  • One year of prior similar work experience preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and safety standards preferred
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as moving equipment and seasonal outdoor work

Job Duties

  • Clean and maintain assigned areas including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways
  • Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas
  • Regularly check trash receptacles and empty as needed
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment
  • Notify lead cleaner or manager about the need for repairs or additions to building systems
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, coworkers, supervisors, and managers
  • Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles
