Job Description

This role involves performing a wide array of custodial, building, and grounds maintenance tasks focused on ensuring a safe and hygienic environment throughout the school campus. The custodian will assume responsibility for specific buildings or outdoor areas, carrying out daily cleaning duties, maintenance reporting, security procedures, and the upkeep of various school facilities including classrooms, lavatories, gymnasiums, playgrounds, and cafeterias. Working closely with the Custodian Coordinator, Lead Custodian, Building Principal, or their designees, the individual will support daily operations through efficient task management, communication, and maintaining positive relations with school staff, students, and community groups. This position represents a vital support function, enabling the smooth operation of the school environment and ensuring the well-being of all campus occupants. It is an at-will, on-call substitute role offering $26.55 per hour and operates primarily during day or swing shifts from Monday through Friday, with potential work on Saturdays and variable daily assignments. To succeed in this role, candidates need to demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and uphold the district's core values related to cultural competence, confidentiality, and professional conduct. The custodian must be adaptable, physically capable, and committed to maintaining rigorous safety and health standards while performing duties that require the operation of various equipment and handling of chemicals in different weather conditions. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
  • Criminal background clearance with current fingerprints on file or willingness to be fingerprinted at own cost
  • Reliable transportation
  • Attend a pre-employment training
  • Ability to organize and perform job responsibilities efficiently and independently without close supervision
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks requiring lifting, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, and working at heights
  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to practice safety and security measures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to follow district procedures for reporting absences
  • Willingness to work unusual hours in emergencies
  • Availability to work multiple locations and weekends as needed

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with operating custodial/maintenance equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of school board policies and procedures

Job Duties

  • Complete work assignments daily and help other workers as necessary
  • Know and execute the building security procedures as needed
  • Support the maintenance of safe and healthy work/play conditions throughout the campus
  • Utilize appropriate energy conservation measures
  • Observe and follow safety and health regulations and district guidelines
  • Maintain excellent communication with the principal or immediate supervisor
  • Assist and work harmoniously with community groups as needed
  • Clean all assigned classrooms
  • Vacuum, dust, mop and spot mop when necessary
  • Empty and clean wastebaskets
  • Clean chalkboards/whiteboards, trays and erasers when needed
  • Dust all horizontal surfaces, vents and univents
  • Clean walls and around doors and light switches when necessary
  • Dust lockers, beams, etc., regularly
  • Clean and disinfect fixtures, floors and partitions daily in lavatories and locker rooms
  • Check and replenish supplies as needed in lavatories
  • Clean and disinfect shower rooms daily
  • Clean lockers as required
  • Dust mop daily and remove scuff marks from walls in gymnasium and playground
  • Clean behind bleachers and clean drinking fountains
  • Perform required inspections of bleachers, playground equipment, and play areas, and complete required inspection forms
  • Empty garbage in cafeteria
  • Clean lunchroom after lunch
  • Set up and take down cafeteria tables
  • Clean kitchen area
  • Secure all outside doors and windows at designated times
  • Keep the Head Custodian or Night Lead informed of needed supplies
  • Monitor persons entering the building for night activities
  • Open and secure designated areas as needed
  • Clean and maintain around outside of the buildings, including flowerbeds, gutters, drains, etc.
  • Wash windows
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain a good work attendance record, be punctual, and follow district procedures for reporting all absences
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
