Job Description
The hiring establishment is a public school district that places a strong emphasis on creating a supportive, professional, and welcoming environment for students, staff, parents, and visitors. The district is dedicated to fostering inclusivity, cultural competence, and equity within its community, recognizing the unique identities and backgrounds of each individual. This commitment is reflected in their dedication to providing excellent administrative support through their clerical and office staff. They offer positions that support the smooth operation of daily activities at their various school sites, focusing on efficiency, communication, and collaboration. The position available is for a Guest Clerical Assistant, a vital role within the school district's administrative team, which is classified as a temporary, as-needed job with competitive hourly pay starting at $29.91 per hour, increasing to $31.48 per hour after completing 20 full-day clerical assignments.
The Guest Clerical Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring that the administrative functions of the school office run efficiently and respectfully. Responsibilities include greeting and assisting visitors, answering phones with proper telephone etiquette, and providing general clerical support such as filing, photocopying, scanning, and distributing materials. This role supports not only the office staff but also students and the broader school community by maintaining order and safety within the office environment, including supervising students who visit the office area. A key component of this position is the ability to serve as a backup in the health room, assisting with basic care for ill or injured students and contacting parents or guardians as required, following established protocols.
The role requires individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. They must be comfortable working with diverse groups of people and responding calmly and effectively in challenging or sensitive situations. The position also demands adaptability to frequent interruptions and changing priorities, always maintaining a customer-service focus and upholding district policies and safety protocols.
Candidates will need a high school diploma or equivalent and at least six months of secretarial or clerical experience, or successful passage of a district-administered clerical skills assessment that includes typing at 35 words per minute. Proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential, along with moderate typing skills. Background checks and completion of district-required training courses are mandatory. The work is primarily indoors in a moderate noise environment and may involve standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
This Guest Clerical Assistant position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a dynamic and meaningful role in an educational setting. It requires a collaborative team player with strong communication skills and a passion for serving the school community with integrity and respect. The district values cultural competence and equity, encouraging candidates who demonstrate awareness and commitment to these principles to apply. This position reports to the principal or a designated representative and works closely with office staff to support school operations on a daily basis.
