Job Description

The Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) located in Charleston, South Carolina, is a respected medical institution known for providing comprehensive healthcare services. As part of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), MUHA plays a key role in delivering superior patient care and supports the community through advanced medical treatments and compassionate service. The hospital authority is recognized for its commitment to health excellence, research, and education, contributing significantly to the welfare of the region it serves. It operates numerous inpatient and outpatient facilities that cater to a diverse patient population with a wide range of medical needs. This institution champions an inclusive and supportive work environment, promoting diversity and equal employment opportunities without discrimination based on race, gender, age, disability, or other protected statuses. The Medical University Hospital Authority also participates in the federal E-Verify program, validating the employment eligibility of new hires to ensure compliance with federal laws.

The role of Guest Services Representative at MUHA is a part-time, temporary position with an hourly pay arrangement and a weekly schedule of 25 hours during the evening shift. Reporting directly to the Manager of Guest Services, the individual in this role acts as a critical link between patients, their families, visitors, and the clinical team members. This position requires effective multitasking as it involves covering both inpatient and outpatient Concierge units alongside information services areas. The primary objective is to provide exceptional customer service that enhances patient comfort, facilitates access to hospital amenities such as hotel accommodations, and connects visitors and family members to spiritual, social, and community support services. The representative must greet visitors professionally, assess their needs, and guide them appropriately, ensuring a welcoming and supportive atmosphere within the hospital.

In addition to direct customer interactions, the Guest Services Representative is responsible for meeting key performance metrics tied to their area of service while maintaining strict adherence to established hospital policies and processes. A creative and solution-focused mindset is essential, as the job involves proactive problem-solving to promote positive outcomes for all customers. Physical requirements include continuous standing, sitting, and walking, as well as occasional activities such as climbing stairs, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching overhead. The work environment requires managing stress effectively in a setting that may include rotating shifts and overtime, with a commitment to maintaining a latex-safe environment. This role demands manual dexterity and strength for tasks such as assisting with patient transfers and pushing wheelchairs or stretchers.

Successful candidates will typically have a high school diploma or equivalent, with no prior experience required but an openness to learn and adapt in a dynamic healthcare environment. This role offers an opportunity to work with energetic, enthusiastic colleagues and contribute positively to the patient experience at one of South Carolina's leading medical facilities. The position underscores MUHA's dedication to inclusive employment practices and offers applicants a chance to be part of a mission-driven organization focused on health and human service excellence.
