Job Description

St. Charles Health System is a reputable healthcare organization committed to creating America’s healthiest community, together. Our vision guides us toward providing comprehensive, compassionate care for our patients and their families, ensuring a positive and supportive experience at every interaction. Founded with the mission of delivering better health, better care, and better value, St. Charles Health System embraces core values that include accountability, caring, and teamwork. These principles shape every aspect of our operations and the culture within our facilities. As a progressive health system, St. Charles offers cutting-edge medical services across various departments and locations, including hospitals and specialty centers such as the St. Charles Heart and Lung Center. We are dedicated to fostering continuous improvement through Value Improvement Practice (VIP-Lean) principles, encouraging innovation and high standards across all roles and responsibilities.

The role of Guest Services Host at St. Charles Health System is a vital part-time position designed to enhance the patient and visitor experience through warm, professional, and proactive guest services. The pay range for this position is from $20.51 to $26.25 per hour, reflecting the importance we place on quality service and dedication to our mission. Reporting directly to the Guest and Volunteer Services Manager, the Guest Services Host acts as the face of our facilities at various access points, including the main hospital entrances and the Heart and Lung Center. This role requires not only exceptional interpersonal skills but also a strong knowledge of the campus layout, hospital departments, and the organizational structure of St. Charles Health System.

This position does not include supervisory duties but plays a critical role in supporting the operations of the guest services department by ensuring visitors feel welcomed and assisted. A key part of the role involves using de-escalation techniques with challenging guests and discerning when to escalate issues to appropriate personnel. The Guest Services Host must be proficient with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and patient lookup processes while strictly adhering to HIPAA protocols to maintain patient confidentiality.

The duties of the Guest Services Host focus largely on hospitality and patient navigation, including escorting patients and visitors to various hospital departments, facilitating wheelchair transportation (pushing patients up to 250 pounds), and answering guest inquiries with thorough and friendly service. Additionally, this position involves maintaining the cleanliness and organization of guest service areas and equipment such as wheelchairs. The role requires continuous communication with hospital departments, caregivers, and physicians to ensure information accuracy and coordinated service delivery.

Besides the operational responsibilities, the Guest Services Host supports the overall vision, mission, and values of St. Charles Health System by acting with integrity, professionalism, and commitment to safety. This role demands flexibility in working variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, totaling approximately 15 hours per week. Candidates must be prepared to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and pushing throughout the work period. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about customer service in a healthcare setting and those committed to fostering an environment where patients and guests feel valued and cared for.
