The role of Guest Services Assistant (GSA) at UnityPoint Health serves as the vital first point of contact for all patients, families, visitors, physicians, affiliates, students, clergy, and employees. Acting as the front door Ambassador, the GSA exemplifies exceptional customer service and hospitality by addressing a broad spectrum of needs such as information dissemination, health screening, visitor management, directions and wayfinding, concierge services, transportation coordination, and guest lodging assistance. This position may focus primarily on either the Guest Services Desk or the Information/Greeter/Health Screening Desk but is expected to provide cross-support to ensure operational needs are met effectively. The role requires a welcoming personality and the ability to engage positively with diverse populations, contributing to a safe and comfortable environment within hospital lobbies and clinic areas.

Guest Services Assistants coordinate the scheduling of contracted interpreters, handle cash reconciliation and cash management tasks, manage external transportation billing and cash posting, and oversee the Lost and Found inventory. They are also responsible for conducting health and wellness screenings in alignment with organizational protocols and CDC guidelines, which support the safe entry of patients, visitors, and staff into healthcare facilities. By screening for health and safety criteria, GSAs help UnityPoint Health maintain a secure and healthy environment. The position demands adaptability, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills, as GSAs frequently interact with hospital staff and the public, ensuring a seamless and respectful experience for all. Additionally, the role entails some administrative duties, including utilizing MS Office Suite for reporting and communication purposes.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years of post-high school experience in a fast-paced office, reception, healthcare, or customer service environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong computer literacy and typing skills
  • Ability to handle cash accurately and dispense change correctly
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to follow health screening protocols and safety guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years post-high school experience in fast-paced office, reception, healthcare, or customer service setting
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite with proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Solid computer and typing skills
  • Strong math skills for money handling
  • EPIC scheduling experience preferred
  • Cash handling experience preferred
  • Public Notary credential preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and hospitality services preferred
  • Familiarity with hospital departments, staff, locations, and functions preferred
  • Prior receptionist, administrative or clerical experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Provide exceptional assistance and information to patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Conduct health screenings following organizational and CDC guidelines
  • Manage visitor flow and lobby access for hospital and hospital-based clinics
  • Schedule contracted interpreters and coordinate related logistics
  • Handle cash reconciliation, cash handling, external transportation billing, and cash posting
  • Maintain and manage Lost and Found items
  • Support wayfinding, concierge services, transportation coordination, and guest lodging assistance
