The Washington Navy Yard is currently seeking a dedicated and professional Front Desk Clerk to join its hospitality team on a part-time basis, working between 20 to 34.5 hours per week. As the first point of contact for guests arriving at Navy Gateway Inn and Suites or Navy Lodge, the Front Desk Clerk plays a crucial role in setting the tone for a welcoming and secure guest stay. The role involves managing all stages of the guest’s stay, accommodating special requests, and resolving any issues that arise promptly and professionally. Responsibilities include handling front desk operations, maintaining the lobby’s appearance, and performing various office functions related to guest services. Security, privacy, and safety are paramount in this role, and the Front Desk Clerk must uphold these standards while managing guest interactions.

This position requires working overnight shifts regularly, along with the flexibility to fill scheduling gaps caused by call-outs, no-shows, or vacations, especially during overnight hours. The clerk will be actively communicating with lodging associates and supervisors to ensure seamless operations and address any immediate concerns. Key duties encompass guest check-in and check-out processes, authorization of payments, room assignments, handling reservations and cancellations, and maintaining accurate records of guest accounts. The Front Desk Clerk also manages the property’s inventory of keys, supplies, and amenities while using the Property Management System (PMS) for daily operations.

Additional responsibilities include managing wake-up calls, resolving guest complaints, handling lost and found items, and operating point-of-sale systems for any convenience store sales within the property. The role may also involve helping with the breakfast service setup and breakdown, assisting in laundry facilities, and driving to other lodging locations when necessary. To maintain compliance and uphold service standards, the Front Desk Clerk must complete mandatory training, including potential certification with the NEXCOM Hospitality Group within six months of employment.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of general office clerical experience
  • One year of progressively responsible experience related to the position
  • Ability to work overnight shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Must complete mandatory training for overnight shift
  • Valid state driver’s license may be required
  • Ability to obtain NEXCOM Hospitality Group certification within six months of employment
