Job Description

NGIS North Island is an integral part of the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) enterprise, dedicated to supporting the quality of life for active-duty military personnel, retirees, reservists, and their families. Located in San Diego, California, NGIS North Island provides various services and amenities, primarily focusing on lodging and hospitality that cater to the unique needs of the military community. The organization is committed to delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring a seamless experience for all patrons who utilize their facilities. As a federal employee within this esteemed entity, you will not only embark on a rewarding career supporting the military community but also enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid annual and sick leave, medical and dental insurance, flexible spending accounts, pension plans, a 401K savings plan with up to 3% match, various insurance policies, tax-free shopping privileges, and more.

The role at NGIS North Island is a Front Desk Agent position at Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and Navy Lodge properties, serving as the first point of contact for guests. This role is both client-facing and operational, encompassing responsibilities that ensure guests have a pleasant and efficient stay. Candidates will be responsible for welcoming guests with a positive attitude, answering questions related to lodging facilities and local attractions, processing reservations and payments, managing check-in and check-out procedures, and maintaining the overall appearance and safety of the lobby area. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to maintain outstanding guest relations and handle all guest requests, including special accommodations and resolving potential issues effectively.

In addition, this role involves collaborating closely with lodging associates and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and adherence to policies and procedures. Duties include managing room assignments, processing credit card transactions, verifying patron eligibility, and using the Property Management System (PMS) for reservations and guest information. The role may also require handling group reservations, assisting in inventory management, maintaining security of master keys, supporting training for front desk personnel, and generating various reports. There may be responsibilities related to the operation of convenience store POS systems, managing lost and found processes, coordinating wake-up calls, and assisting with breakfast bar service, which requires food handling certification.

This position is part-time, requiring 20 to 34.5 hours per week, and the candidate must be prepared to work various shifts including weekends and holidays. The work location will initially be at Naval Air Station North Island, with the possibility of assignments across multiple locations based on business needs. Key requirements include at least one year of general office clerical experience and one year of progressively responsible experience related to the role. Candidates who have completed relevant studies at a college or university may substitute education for experience on a specified basis. The employer emphasizes adherence to security and operational protocols, including the proper logging and handling of keys and compliance with guest privacy requirements. Obtaining NEXCOM Hospitality Group front desk certification within six months of employment is also expected.

This opportunity offers a valuable chance to contribute meaningfully to the military community while developing a career in hospitality within a federal employment structure. The comprehensive benefits and supportive work environment make NGIS North Island an attractive place to work for those interested in providing exceptional service in a fast-paced lodging operation. If you possess strong customer service skills, operational competence, and a commitment to upholding high standards, this Front Desk Agent position will allow you to thrive and grow professionally.
