Job Description
Wheeling Park District is a well-established community-focused organization dedicated to providing quality recreational services, educational programs, and leisure opportunities to residents and visitors in the Wheeling area. With a commitment to enhancing the community's quality of life, the District operates a variety of parks, recreation centers, and community facilities. The organization places strong emphasis on maintaining a safe, welcoming environment while encouraging active participation in its diverse programs. Known for its friendly atmosphere and dedication to public service, Wheeling Park District continually strives to meet the recreational and social needs of individuals and families throughout the year.
The Guest Service Representative role is a part-time, year-round position based at the Community Recreation Center. This role is integral to the success of the Park District’s front-line services by providing exceptional customer service and serving as the initial point of contact for guests visiting the facility. The Guest Service Representative is responsible for greeting and assisting guests with a welcoming demeanor, addressing inquiries about Park District programs, handling registrations and paperwork, managing cash transactions, and supporting staff with general administrative tasks. The position requires availability mainly during weekday mornings from 7:45 am to 11:00 am and weekend shifts from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
This position reports directly to the Guest Service Manager and does not include supervisory responsibilities, making it ideal for individuals seeking to contribute to community service in a supportive, fast-paced environment without management duties. The ideal candidate demonstrates diplomatic communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage office systems while aligning with the organization’s core values such as respect, integrity, innovation, and continuous learning.
The Guest Service Representative must be familiar with the facility’s floor plan, emergency evacuation procedures, and daily scheduled activities. Proficiency in handling cash and operating office equipment like telephones and computers is essential, along with an ability to maintain an organized work environment. The role also involves opening and closing the Guest Service office, processing registrations and photo identification cards, managing files, and participating actively in staff meetings and training sessions. A focus on safety compliance and supportive teamwork characterizes this position, which also offers opportunities for engagement in special projects and ongoing professional development through Park District-led programs.
