The Front Desk Receptionist at Barkers Hotel & Purrington Inn is more than just a receptionist; this role is the heartbeat of the customer experience. As the first point of contact for pets and their humans, the Front Desk Receptionist is responsible for creating a positive and reassuring experience from the moment clients arrive. This person greets clients warmly, handles inquiries about services including boarding, daycare, and grooming, schedules reservations and appointments using the facility’s management software, and manages smooth check-in and check-out procedures. Additionally, the receptionist updates and maintains pet medical and vaccination records, ensuring all documentation is accurate and accessible.

Beyond client interaction, the role involves various administrative duties such as processing payments via cash, card, or digital means, issuing receipts, organizing client and pet records, and preparing necessary intake forms and boarding agreements. The receptionist also manages communication by responding to emails and inquiries promptly or forwarding them to the appropriate team member.

Supporting facility operations is another crucial component of the job. The receptionist communicates pet care details to the kennel and grooming staff, makes sure special needs related to medications, food, and temperament are clearly noted, and keeps the lobby clean, welcoming, and safe for both pets and people. The role also includes managing front-desk supplies and inventory for retail pet products.

Ideal candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be highly organized, able to multitask effectively, and remain calm in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. Compassion, patience, reliability, punctuality, and a team-oriented attitude are essential traits. Physical requirements include being comfortable standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods, the ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, and being okay with the typical sounds and activities of a pet boarding facility.

The schedule requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and peak business periods with shifts varying according to operational needs. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of receptionist or customer service experience preferred, ideally within a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or pet care setting. Proficiency with scheduling software and basic Microsoft Office skills are a plus.
