Job Description

As a part of the New Brighton Parks and Recreation Department, the Guest Service Receptionist position offers an exciting opportunity to engage with a broad cross-section of the community while supporting the day-to-day operations of the department. This role is designed for dependable and energetic individuals who thrive in fast-paced, customer-focused environments. Employment in this position is part-time, averaging approximately 12 hours per week during weekday hours with shifts scheduled between 8:45 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., allowing for a flexible yet consistent daytime work schedule.

The Guest Service Receptionist acts as the first point of contact for patrons who reach out to the department either in person or by phone. Responsibilities include providing courteous, reliable service to community members, assisting with program registrations and membership transactions, and supporting city and facility staff by addressing various customer needs. This position requires effective communication skills to interact with a diverse community, multitasking abilities to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and physical stamina to stand for extended periods.

In addition to customer service duties, the Guest Service Receptionist also performs essential office support tasks, including data entry and light housekeeping duties, helping ensure the smooth operation of the New Brighton Community Center (NBCC). You will be expected to complete scheduled opening and closing procedures, maintain a clean and welcoming lobby environment, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High school education or GED equivalent
  • minimum of one-year experience as a cashier
  • previous work experience with data entry
  • proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook
  • ability to stand for prolonged periods
  • able to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities
  • effective communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school education or GED equivalent
  • minimum of one-year experience as a cashier
  • previous work experience with data entry
  • proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • considerable typing experience including letters, flyers, and reports
  • ability to exercise independent judgment with upper level clerical responsibility
  • displays the ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner projecting a favorable image of the City
  • OR such alternatives to the above qualifications as the City may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Duties

  • Welcomes walk-in customers and answers callers' inquiries
  • completes and enters program registration and membership transactions into the appropriate database
  • extensive contact with the general public and staff from all City departments
  • performs various office support duties and housekeeping tasks as scheduled or requested
  • completes established opening and closing procedures for the NBCC as scheduled
  • performs other job related responsibilities as apparent or assigned
