The Guest Service Department Lead role at The Fresh Market is a pivotal position that supports the Guest Service Department Manager in delivering unparalleled guest service. Reporting directly to the department manager, this role involves leading and inspiring a team committed to creating memorable guest experiences that align with the company’s core values of hospitality, leadership, and teamwork. This position offers a competitive pay range of $20.22 to $21.94 per hour and is a full-time opportunity. The Department Lead will actively engage with guests, ensuring that service levels meet and exceed expectations while maintaining an efficient and smoothly operating department. This role includes responsibilities such as managing labor schedules, executing cash office procedures, coaching team members, assisting with merchandising strategies, and collaborating with other department leaders to drive overall store success.

The role demands someone who is not only a strong leader but also a hands-on team player able to work flexible schedules including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Success in this position requires effective communication and problem-solving skills along with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team. Familiarity with POS systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite will aid in the daily management of department tasks. Physical demands such as handling repetitive movements, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods are part of the job, making stamina and resilience important traits. Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • 1+ years of progressive management experience in supermarkets, retail, restaurants, hotels, or general business
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Basic proficiency with POS systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Physical ability to perform repetitive hand/arm movements, grasping, bending, reaching
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds by oneself
  • Ability to use tools and equipment such as knives, ladders, stepstools, box cutters, pallet jacks
  • Willingness to stand or walk for long periods with minimal breaks
  • Required to wear approved hat, hair net, and/or beard guard and personal protective equipment

Job Qualifications

  • 1+ years of progressive management experience in supermarkets, retail, restaurants, hotels, or general business
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams
  • Proven ability to deliver an exceptional guest experience while achieving performance goals
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Basic proficiency with POS systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Associate's degree in business, retail management, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in grocery, fresh food retail, hospitality, or high-volume specialty retail environment
  • Knowledge of inventory management systems and financial reporting
  • Bilingual skills a plus

Job Duties

  • Help monitor labor schedules to meet productivity and budget goals
  • Execute and uphold cash office procedures and controls including management of cash, keys and the safe
  • Act as a resource for team members and provide guidance in the manager's absence
  • Model and coach impeccable hospitality by actively engaging guests and creating positive experiences
  • Help implement merchandising strategies and promotional plans to maximize sales and profitability
  • Assist in analyzing department financial and performance metrics
  • Collaborate with fellow department leaders to drive overall store success
  • Assist in resolving guest concerns promptly and effectively
