Job Description

The City of Thornton is a progressive and vibrant municipality dedicated to providing exceptional public services to its residents and visitors. Known for its community-centered approach and commitment to fostering a welcoming environment, the city operates various facilities that serve as focal points for civic engagement, recreation, and customer interaction. As a government employer, the City of Thornton strives to ensure an inclusive workplace that supports employee growth, community involvement, and public satisfaction through quality service delivery.

We are currently seeking a reliable and personable individual to join our team as a Cashier and Receptionist at one of our city facilities. This position operates under general supervision and focuses on performing essential front desk responsibilities while delivering excellent customer service. Scheduled to work on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with shifts from 8am to 2pm or 9am to 3pm, this role is ideal for someone looking to contribute to their community by supporting facility operations and helping patrons effectively navigate city services.

As a Cashier and Receptionist, you will be the primary point of contact for visitors and patrons, managing various front desk duties including answering inquiries, resolving issues, and directing customers to appropriate resources or locations within the facility. Additional responsibilities include scheduling room reservations, assisting with online registration systems, controlling facility admissions by processing fees and memberships, and handling cash transactions in alignment with city policies. The position requires attentiveness to detail and accuracy as you will be responsible for maintaining records such as inventory, receipts, and memberships, along with daily cash balancing and deposit reporting.

This role also involves promoting and marketing city programs, managing voicemail transcriptions for registrations, and ensuring that all facility policies and procedures are clearly communicated and enforced. Candidates must demonstrate competency operating standard office equipment, including cash registers, computer systems, and multiple communication devices. This position may require working opening or closing shifts and the potential for overtime in busy periods. Experience training or mentoring less experienced clerks is a plus and will be valued within this role.

Applicants should possess strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, high-usage environment, and a friendly demeanor that fosters positive interactions with a variety of patrons. Understanding and upholding the operational standards and service goals of the City of Thornton is essential. Accessibility considerations and physical ability to perform light work involving prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and making repetitive motions are also part of the job requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals aged 16 and older with previous customer service, receptionist, or public-facing experience to gain valuable work experience in a public sector setting. The City of Thornton offers an outstanding benefits package that may include health, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability plans, retirement options, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, and many more supportive programs to help employees thrive both professionally and personally.
