The role of Group Sales Manager at Highgate Hotels is a pivotal position responsible for actively soliciting and familiarizing oneself with all accounts within designated market segments. This role is essential for driving the hotel’s revenue growth through strategic prospecting and closing of assigned accounts and territories. The Group Sales Manager’s primary goal is to meet or exceed established sales targets while managing the sales department within the confines of the expense budget. This position includes participating in management on duty (M.O.D) and weekend office coverage on a scheduled basis, ensuring continuous support and responsiveness to operational needs.
Within this role, the Group Sales Manager will initiate and diligently follow up on sales leads, maintain an active sales solicitation program, and continuously monitor account production trends within their market. Interaction with existing clients is prioritized through routine communications aligned with the Account Coverage Program, and soliciting sales calls are to meet preset goals as determined by the Director of Sales. This professional is tasked with organizing and hosting client meetings, including entertainment, lunches, tours, and site inspections that showcase the hotel’s key features and benefits.
The successful candidate will assist in executing special promotional campaigns targeting direct sales segments and prepare necessary reports promptly. A thorough understanding of Highgate Hotels’ sales policies and techniques is necessary, placing emphasis on maximizing occupancy rates and achieving favorable Average Daily Rates (ADR). The Group Sales Manager will conduct professional site inspections and utilize computerized sales management systems effectively — including generating reports, inputting business, managing block space, and building accounts.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in a hotel or related field preferred
- Skilled in Windows, company approved spreadsheets and word processing
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively listen to and clarify concerns
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Attend all required meetings and trainings
- Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required
- Maintain high personal appearance standards

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- College course work in related field helpful
- Experience in a hotel or a related field preferred

- Ability to effectively listen to, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests
- Able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines

- Attendance at all hotel required meetings and trainings
- Participation in M.O.D. coverage as required
- Ability to maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming
- Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
- Ability to maximize efforts towards productivity and assist in implementing solutions
- Effective problem handling skills, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems

Job Duties
- Meet or exceed set goals
- Operate the Sales Department within established sales expense budget
- Participate in required M.O.D. and Saturday office coverage as scheduled
- Initiate and follow up on leads
- Maintain and participate in an active sales solicitation program
- Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends within your market
- Regularly contact existing accounts based on the tracing frequencies of the Account Coverage Program
- Meet or exceed sales solicitation call goals as assigned by the Director of Sales
- Invite clients to the hotel for entertainment, lunches, tours and site inspections
- Assist in implementing special promotions relating to direct sales segments, i.e. parties, sales blitzes, etc
- Assist in the preparation of required reports in a timely manner
- Be familiar with all Highgate Hotel sales policies and selling techniques with an emphasis on maximizing occupancy and average daily rate (ADR)
- Conduct a professional, thorough site inspection of the hotel with clients, exhibiting key features and benefits of the property
- Use your property’s computerized sales management system to manage the hotel’s business, including generating reports, entering business, blocking space and building accounts
- Meet and greet onsite contacts
- Abide by Prime Selling Time (PST)
- Develop networking opportunities through active participation in community and professional associations, activities and events
- Review meeting planner evaluations with the Director of Sales to ensure that issues receive follow-up
- Entertain clients
- Handle inquiries as part of Inquiry Day Program
