Job Description

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a respected network of top-rated public charter schools located throughout Arizona. Dedicated to delivering an exceptional education in a safe and welcoming environment, AMS serves a diverse community of students. The institution has built a strong reputation for academic excellence combined with a nurturing atmosphere that supports not only scholars but educators and staff alike. This network emphasizes a holistic educational experience enhanced by well-maintained facilities and campuses conducive to learning success. AMS values community involvement and employee dedication, promoting an inclusive workplace that fosters professional growth and long-term career opportunities.

AMS is currently hiring for the position of Day Porter - Grounds at its Phoenix campus located at 6633 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85033. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the campus environment remains clean, safe, and visually appealing. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $15.50 to $18.00 per hour, depending on experience (DOE). As part of the Operations team, the Day Porter-Grounds will play a vital role in campus maintenance by performing landscaping, groundskeeping, and minor repair duties. This role is perfect for individuals who are proactive, reliable, and take pride in upholding a safe, well-cared-for environment for students, staff, and families within the school community.

The Day Porter will be responsible for the daily upkeep of exterior campus grounds following established maintenance schedules that cover daily, weekly, monthly, and annual tasks. This includes sweeping sidewalks and parking areas, raking and blowing debris, emptying exterior trash receptacles, and monitoring play areas for safety and good condition. Additionally, the individual will operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as pole saws, weed eaters, and backpack blowers, perform power washing on various exterior surfaces, and conduct minor painting and touch-ups as needed. Irrigation systems also fall under their watch to ensure proper watering of lawns and plants. Support duties extend to driveline operations and assisting with school events by setting up spaces such as rooms and cafeterias.

Furthermore, the role involves light maintenance tasks like changing light bulbs and HVAC filters, assisting with building security by locking or unlocking doors and gates, and supporting interior cleaning efforts when necessary. All activities require strict adherence to safety protocols, including compliance with chemical handling laws, HAZMAT regulations, and Safety Data Sheet guidelines. AMS expects this role to provide excellent customer service through professional and respectful interactions with faculty, students, and families.

By joining AMS as a Day Porter - Grounds, candidates become part of a dedicated team striving to create the best educational environment in Arizona. The organization offers more than just a job - it offers meaningful work, competitive benefits, and opportunities for professional growth within a network committed to educational excellence and community well-being.
