Job Description

The Community Food Co-op is a community-owned natural foods grocery store dedicated to providing high-quality, sustainable food options while embracing the cooperative business model. Founded with a mission to serve its local community, the Co-op emphasizes inclusivity, engagement, and support within its workplace culture. This organization is passionate about setting a high standard for employment practices by fostering an environment built on respect, integrity, and growth opportunities. As a cooperative, it values teamwork, shared ownership, and collective impact, creating a unique retail environment that benefits both customers and employees alike.

The Community Food Co-op is currently seeking Grocery Team Members to join their dynamic team. This non-exempt, union-represented position (covered under Teamsters Local 231 union) is classified at Union Level 1. Team members are eligible for a shift premium of $1.00 for all hours worked from 10 PM to 6 AM, reflecting the organization's commitment to fair compensation. The Grocery Team Member position plays a crucial role in maintaining the store's welcoming atmosphere by ensuring shelves are well-stocked, clean, and appealing to shoppers.

These team members can be part of either the day shift, focusing on stocking products, conditioning shelves, and offering direct customer service, or the night crew, responsible for receiving deliveries, stocking, and preparing the store for the next business day. Regardless of shift, all team members uphold the Community Food Co-op’s high standards for merchandising, cleanliness, and customer engagement. They deliver friendly, knowledgeable customer service, assist with product inquiries, execute planogram merchandising, manage inventory rotation following First In First Out principles, and help maintain a safe, clean work environment.

Team members are also involved in operational and administrative support such as processing invoices, updating pricing labels, ensuring signage accuracy, and supporting ordering as needed. The role requires physical endurance as it involves standing and walking for extended periods, lifting up to 60 pounds, working in various temperature-controlled environments, and effectively operating equipment including pallet jacks and forklifts, with proper training and certification.

Working at the Community Food Co-op offers employees a supportive and rewarding environment, with benefits including up to 25% staff discount, great medical, dental, and vision insurance options, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, pay on demand, potential year-end bonus, and access to an employee assistance program. The co-op is committed to equal opportunity employment, ensuring all qualified candidates receive consideration without discrimination, and it actively promotes reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.

By joining the Community Food Co-op as a Grocery Team Member, individuals contribute to a meaningful mission of promoting sustainable food practices, community wellness, and cooperative business success. This role is ideal for self-motivated, positive individuals who take pride in their work, enjoy collaborative team efforts, and are passionate about providing excellent customer service in a vibrant, community-focused grocery setting.
